ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
The Simply Said Sessions
Artist: Jo Davidson

Brimming with intensity, this collection of 14 exquisitely touching songs by Jo Davidson reads like a memoir. Recorded in a converted horse stables in Newport, Rhode Island with co-producer Steve Rizzo (Kristin Hersh), this NYC based artist takes us on an authentic journey of the seasons that love and relationships go through. Diving into her own experiences as well as observations, Jo explores passion in all its constructive as well as destructive forms, as well as the events of 9-11.... (which she witnessed from her window). This album is a journey that eventually ends with hope, in the solo piano piece "Carousel," which amazingly is reminiscent of Chopin or Erik Satie. Not only does she create beautifully crafted pop songs, but she composes stunning classical melodies full of yearning and reflection. If you appreciate artists such as Aimee Mann, Suzanne Vega, Norah Jones, Duncan Sheik, Tori Amos, or Jill Sobule with a touch of The Beatles sprinkled in, if you are tired of the meaningless fare offered up in today's corrupt music industry, then you'll love the purity of Jo Davidson's "The Simply Said Sessions." It's nice to slow down again, and it is rare for someone to get us to do so. Not meant to be digested like a soundbite or a fast food meal, this is a wonderfully unpolished look at real life. It unfolds slowly and packs a punch.

Nice soothing CD.
I would recommend this CD to anyone who liked her first CD.

Stripped, intimate
Warm, brooding and intimate collection of soul-baring songs. Stripped back from fancy studio production makes this organic and confessional marriage of songs feel like you're "Being Jo Davidson".

Jo does it again!! This is a stunning work!!
Jo Davidson's follow-up CD to Kiss Me There offers more evidence that she's one of the finest Independent artists around. The Simply Said Sessions feature a collection of reflective songs with brooding lyrics, stunningly beautiful melodies, bittersweet vocals, and that extra, undefinable ingredient that Jo brings to a song. The songs bounce back and forth between the pain that life harbors, and the hope that one needs to survive.

For those of us who loved Kiss Me There, Jo serves notice once again that she's not into repeating herself. This CD is made up of bare arrangements that make every word stand out. Her voice becomes another instrument, at times very sad, occasionally philosophical, but always interesting and compelling. This is a magnificent work with it's final piece, the beautiful instrumental Carousel being Grammy Award worthy. Let's hope that this gets the attention it deserves and is a huge triumph for Ms. Davidson.

Excellent!!! No skip-over songs. Mournful, inspiring, lyrical.
Simply Said Sessions has it all. Songs, mournful and lyrical in quality; pieces that fill in pensive and reflective moments in time. Background for a cozy, rainy afternoon, or insightful conversations. Every song reaches deep, to a place where everyone can relate; reaches in and calls us to examine our most vulvnerable selfs -- when we're in love, when we're wanting. Jo Davidson has done it again. I think this is her best CD to date!
