ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
FUNK ‘n’ ROLL – How do we do it? We take the sturdiness of a rock band, immerse it in 60′s and 70′s funk, soul, rhythm and blues, outfit it with rich tones of warm guitar tube amps, organ, electric piano, tambourine and fat basslines, put two powerhouse vocalists out front to sing the heck out of those microphones… And most importantly, create harmony on and off stage… If you’re down for a great live music band that is far enough away from the mainstream, but funky enough to dance all night, this is the showcase you can’t miss. This is the business of Dawn in the City – sockin’ it to yer biscuits!!

Dawn in the City is an Edmonton, Alberta based, five-piece, live performance group that specializes in mixing up rock ‘n’ roll, funk, blues, soul and dance music for many types of events. They play their original music and cover many classic artists such as Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, Stevie Wonder, AC/DC, Wilson Pickett and The Blues Brothers. They provide their own sound and lights, and put on a spirit-lifting stage show that is second to none. If you have a venue you’d like to fill with a Funk ‘n’ Roll party, count on Dawn in the City to bring it, and bring it good!

Dawn in the City have been working hard both as stage performers and as a recording group. In 2010 they released their first album, Groove In Every Stitch, independently recorded in Nanaimo BC with record producer Todd Dunsmore (now the owner of the revived Canadian music label RisquéDisque).

Currently, they are making strides in completing their second album, Burnt Shades, which will be released in May 2014. Self-produced, with the collaboration of recording engineer James Seabrook at Two Bodies of Water Productions right here in Edmonton, Burnt Shades expands on the Funk ‘N’ Roll recipe that DITC audiences have come to know. With a fuller, bigger sound, sweetened with rich vocal harmonies, synths and special guest stars, this amazing original music should find its way to the top of your stack very soon!

Originally forming in 2006, Dawn in the City has evolved into a top notch group, a true variety band that emphasizes high energy music and dancing tunes. They have been winning over audiences of all age groups, and tend to cater to most musical tastes. As well, DITC can offer a quality sound and lighting production that can be scaled to meet most and any sized venue’s needs. Stylistic influences in the DITC sound includes Funk, Classic Rock, R&B, Soul, Ska, Indie Rock and more.
