ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Definitely Gary is a Midwest rock type trio outfit dedicated to shaking booty. They emerged from a bag of Funyuns and a can of Money House brand house blessing one steamy summer afternoon in quaint Decatur, IN. Outfitted with 10 strings and a few drums to beat on, the trio decided to stank up the music scene by creating hearty rock numbers that keep the necks movin' and the booties shakin'. Come to have a funky good time. So good to hear it.

Fort Wayne Reader presents Live on Stage

Great songs and musicianship make this CD a stone groove.
The New Deal is every bit as fun and funky as a live performance by this Midwest trio. Songs like Hey! Brown Shoes and Dr. Doctor Ph.D. show off the band's music chops while delivering quirky but catchy lyrics. Full of great songs and impressive musical virtuosity, The New Deal is a stone groove.

The Gary Strikes Back with funky complex rock with an anomalous vibe...
The hits just keep on coming for Definitely Gary. The singular rock trio from the Fort Wayne, Indiana return with their sophomore release more polished and yet more vicious than the first, like a rabid heiress in a mosh pit.

The album opens with rowdy, sing-along “Well, alright,” which combines a light opening with an ironic faux death metal sensibility. The first track melds with the second, a hardy guitar driven piece with a tambourine backbone. Droll and listenable at the same time.

The album abounds with populist hits (“Dr. Doctor PHD, Hey! Brown Shoes”) that have hooks that never let you go. And then there’re are songs like “Radio” and “By the Wayside” that combine the best of Primus with catchy jazz elements and lyrics that hit your brain like a television dropped into a narrow well with a shallow pool of Jell-O at the bottom. Clunk-splat.

Sometimes you can’t help but laugh, but don’t write the Gary off as a novelty act. Their ability to infuse infectious groove into to most unexpected of places (the second half of “Filthy Dirty” comes to mind) is the hallmark of genuine musical skill and a heapin’ helpin’ of vision. I can’t wait to see what the DG comes up with next.

This album, like their last, is the strangest hybrid of complex music, accessible enjoyment and humor. There’s a lot to be said for the mutated creature that can wrangle those all into a tight bundle the way DG can. Woot.

Great all around sound!
The new deal is a great cd! The way the musicians play together is fantastic. Love the catchy lyrics. My personal favorites are weatherman and schiedler family practice. Great work guys!
