The greatest jazz musicians never seem to use more notes than they have to. It's true, too, of Denis Farfone.
Denis Farfone has long been regionally recognized a tenor sax giant. Probably more than any tenor saxophonist since Dexter Gordon and Ben Webster. Denis has been recognized as a master of the ballad. This album represents eight of his best ballad compositions.
Farfone made his reputation in the late-70's with the explosive Sonido Ekos latin band and in Bear Mountain Inn with The Paul Pick Jazz Orchestra which lasted 10 years.
He performed in Nashville, New Orleans, Chicago and Cincinatti recording at the Ole Opryland Studio in Nashville before returning to New York.
In the 80's, no one was taking the time to really listen and give Denis his due. It was not until he began to record his own compositions under his Jazz Note label that he really began to be appreciated for his giant talent with CD sales.
Here is Denis Farfone, without electronic devices to hype the music, trusting that art can be made with a tenor saxophone, a piano, a bass and a set of drums.
On April of 2013, Denis Farfone recorded this album in Connecticut. Denis Farfone may be even more of a heavyweight now but was doing it then. You need to hear all of Denis.
