Deridian (Black & White)

by Deridian

This genre bending band goes from jazz to Indian raga without dropping a beat. The most surprising thing is that it still manages to rock.

Album Notes
"The door stands quietly watching me, the bolt is locked I have no key, I tried to knock and it screamed, 'Leave me be!' Cursing at the hinges that kept it stopped and like a rock that's trying to fly, it caught a breeze and reached into the sky..."

Deridian is a musical ensemble which draws from a variety of genres including rock, jazz, world and funk.

The songwriting is primarily folk based, meaning the music was written to fit the lyrics and not the other way around. However, the main propellant in the mix is the use of rhythmic dissonance to affect as well as effect the listener.

Much of the unusual rhythms found in Deridian's music comes from across the world - India, Africa, Cuba, Spain as well as some American born rhythms found in 70's jazz-fusion and progressive rock.

This album makes the stars align and the heavens and earth blend in harmony

Liz Smith, Editor Of

"It's absolutely beautiful... [Tristan is] talented beyond the normal musicians/
Deridian has a very captivating sound. The rhythms are
exotic and beautiful. This is a great CD to listen to with
headphones so you won't miss a beat. Deridian is the work
of Tristan Kromer who is on guitar, lead vocals and composes
all the songs.
The guitar is the prominent single instrument on the CD
but the percussion is what really makes this music so
unique. Some of the instruments mentioned on the liner notes
are shakers, congas, tambora, tortoise shell, chimes, udu,
batajon, djembe to name a few. The sound is so exotic and
worldly. The singing reminds me of Jethro Tull and Fleetwood
Mac and the music reminds me of Renaissance with a world
beat. It's just a lovely sound and very contemporary.
The first song, Shanti is just masterpiece.

Deridian's website [] is eye candy!
It's very slick and professional. Even their Real Audio
clips are custom designed. Very Impressive!
