ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Scan Dyer is Dermaptera’s seventh CD, recorded in 2011. The album was recorded using improvisational techniques on a number of different instruments, as well as overdubbing of tracks in order to create a synthesis of impulsive creativity and deliberate sound building. Our main idea for Scan Dyer was to utilize a lot of synthesizers, drum machines, and arpeggiation to add rhythm and change to chilled-out tracks.

Kathy McMenamin and Kevin Hassett are Dermaptera. A husband and wife duo, we have been making music together since the turn of the millennium. Kevin has been playing bass since the early eighties, and has perfected his individual style of playing multiple string chords on the bass. His bass style also usually includes multiple effects processors. Kathy plays the synthesizer, and adds signal processed vocals to some songs. Her background includes a decade of training and performing for voice and piano, but she had been away from making music for several years before Kevin convinced her to start up again. Other instruments that are making appearances on this album include the Korg Triton Le, the JoMox Xbase 888 and M-Resonator, the Moody Baby Box, the Eowave Sci-Fi Bug and Filter Bug, the Infection In-1, the Monotonic Labs LR55 and Type-U73, a 1977 Fender Mustang bass; the Moogerfooger Lopass Filter, Ring Modulator, 12 Stage Phaser, Analog Delay, Bass MuRF, and FreqBox; and the Boss Voice Transformer VT-1, so keep your ears open for surprises.
