ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter Devadas began performing on streetcorners and in clubs in his native Portland, Maine. After moving to New York to attend NYU Film school, he fell in with the village's anti-folk scene and became interested in eastern spiritual philosophy and meditation.

After meeting his Guru, he began the regular practice of bhajan, traditional Hindu call and response devotional singing, often leading kirtans in New York City. Eventually, inspired by his teacher’s own devotional compositions, the practices of bhajan and songwriting grew together.

“Ocean” is Devadas’s second cd in the past 3 years, following “Shine Shine On”, and the profits from the album’s sales are being donated to the charities of the M.A. Center. Produced by Erik Jacobs, former drummer of the Bunny Brains, it features J Mascis of Dinosaur Jr. on lead guitar throughout and guest appearances by new age kirtan singer Wah! on violin and vocals (“I Travel Silent” and “Homecoming”).
