ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Having collaborated with some of the world's premier producers including Jazzanova ("Burning"--Tate's Place Re-mix), IG Culture ("The Plan"), and DJ Skitz ("Be"), Julie is considered a musical prodigy among music tastemaker's throughout the world. Although Julie has taken top-prize at the European Jazz Festival for her skills as a jazz-vocalist, her music defies categorization. Julie's musical pallette includes, soul, drum n' bass, reggae, jazz, and funk. In fact, her upcoming release, "Dexterity," will feature 5 different drummers and has been described as a cross bewteen Led-Zeppelin and Roberta Flack.

Born and raised in Birmingham, England of Jamaican parents, Julie Dexter represents the future of British Soul Music. As the lead vocalist for one of the most critically acclaimed young jazz groups in the world, J-Life, Dexter has stunned crowds on every continent with her vocal mastery. Now this shy British diva is stepping out as a solo artist to give the world her own unique brand of music.

Magnificent!!
The Peace of Mind EP is nothing short of magnificent. Neo-soul purists and jazz lovers will easily be moved by this project. Although the EP is a brisk 28 minutes long, it is more than enough to get the taste buds wet. Julie's delivery has been compared to everyone who is in the spotlight of late. Erykah, Jill, even Ursula Rucker!! Truth be told she is one of the few artists whose originality and creativity are expressed in song. No studio diva here. Try sampling "Ketch a Vibe" for starters and the difference in her music can be heard and appreciated. Again, an excellent effort from an artist with only bigger and better things to come. Julie's style and voice reminds me of Maysa Leak. Peace of Mind - fat tracks and I'm sold.

If you like Amel, Caron Wheeler, India et al....
At 7 tracks, she's better than half the R&B acts you can name with huge record deals. It's better than albums twice its length. There are no stinkers on here, not a one. This sister rocks. The vibe is decidedly jazzy with vast soundscapes without being inacessible. If you like smooth jazz, good R&B (Amel Larrieux, India.Arie, Caron Wheeler) and flat-out great craftsmanship, this CD more than delivers. It'll make you regret every CD you've bought in the past year.

Truely a work of art. A labor of love.
It's not everday you can sit down and actually listen to some music that moves you, and I mean emotionally as well as spiritually. Ms. Dexter your songs on this (CD) are like food for the soul. Peace Of Mind truely filled me up.
