Album Notes
Dialektix, the Denver based hip-hop group, has continued to grow and expand in the vast hip-hop community for more than four years. Keeping their foundation based in the purity of emceeing, turntablism, and musically raw beats, this group delivers what is missing in much of today's hip-hop. The trio - emcees Mest-one and Jarvis plus deejay Square - is not afraid to re-introduce the words "performance," "truth," and "fun" into a hip-hop fan's vocabulary. Focusing on production for a live arena, Dialektix keeps their performance tight, beats live and delivers lyrics with a commanding presence.
Hailing from different parts of the country, the members of Dialektix have found a home in Denver and a bond in their shared ideals of what hip-hop should be. From Tulsa, Oklahoma, Jarvis brings -a unique style of poetic lyricism. His mind-bending rhymes blend spoken word poems and obscure metaphors into a very soulful hip-hop deliverance that makes you think. The other half of the emcee duo, Mest-one from Boulder, Colorado, lends his rhymes as well as his beat production to the team. Mest-one's straight forward and often brazen approach to his lyrics and beats grabs listeners by their ears while expressing exactly what 's on his mind. Deejay Square from Charlotte, North Carolina, contributes his top-flight turntable skills to the group. His stage experience enhances performances, production, and adds what we think is essential in today's hip-hop-a deejay!
The members of Dialektix may come from different backgrounds, but they all grew up in the same era of hip-hop which contributes to the solidarity of their musical vision. Since the beginning of 2000, Dialektix has produced three e.p.'s, a four song vinyl e.p., and two full length albums. Their most recent album, "The Power of Environment," released in the fall, 2003 is already generating quite a response. The songs, "So Why," "A.D.D.," and "What if This Was True," have already received consistent radio play on the University of Colorado's "Basementalism" show on 1190 AM. "So Why" and "A.D.D." have also made it to the show's track of the week selection. "The Power of Environment" is a very honest representation of the Dialektix musical cohesion and attitudes. Breaking away from the tough, thugish hip-hop image, Dialektix maintains an original vibe that is serious and fun and intellectual. The album's sample-based production, mixed with the emcees talent to trade rhymes brings a touch of old school to the platform of today's hip-hop. The combination of crowd-moving beats and the lyrics everyday subject matter pleases a live audience as well as the album's listeners.
Having performed over 100 shows, Dialektix has built an impressive stage presence and a solid following. Their professional demeanor on and off stage, along with the energy they project during their sets, has made an impression on promoters and fans alike. Dialektix has opened for over 30 national acts including Atmosphere, Aesop Rock, Jungle Brothers, Living Legends, and others. The group was also invited to play the 2002 Elements Jam in Dallas, Texas with Brother Ali and b-boy crews from around the country. Along with performing, Dialektix has promoted and run successful hip-hop events at local clubs and theaters. A weekly night (Industry Underground Sundays), a monthly night (Krush), and special events (Lessons in Sound I and II) over the years. The Lessons in Sound events boasted packed houses at the Bluebird and Gothic theaters in Denver, both larger capacity venues. Dialektix has been included in the "best hip-hop group" category for the 2002 and 2003 Westword Music Showcase and performed in the 2002 event. The group has received press attention from Denver area publications such as The Denver Post, Westword, The Metropolitan, and the CU Advocate. The most notable was to be included in The Denver Post's "Best of the Underground 2003", and a "hit pick" in the Westword (2002).
Dialektix plans to continue to learn and grow in the music industry. The members want to add to their fan base and increase their exposure by touring more and expanding their internet promotion. Dialektix has earned its recognition in Denver and strives to succeed in the national market.
