ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Most of these very short stories are at least partly true. They're about a woman who became somebody else; the loser lover who couldn't help being a man, the vengful ex, the clarity of tears, the heart that needs more loving hands, the very young mother to be, the lover who's time is up, the woman who remembers a girl, the guy across the hall, the bitch, the man who lost it all, and the very sexist dragon.

These are "Once Upon A Time" pillow talk starters for when someone is there with you to share the night. And they're a warm, human voice in the middle of nights when you're trying to make it to dawn all by yourself.

Some quick comments from people who've heard Night Connections 3: "This guy knows how to get to your gut. He tells these short, punchy stories that he claims are mostly real. I believe they are, because you can hear hearts hitting hammers in some of them..." (Mario, N.Y.C.) "Omygod, he can put his slippers under my bed any time he likes. I take this cd to bed with me every night. Every time you hear the stories, you get something you missed the first time. They make me cry and they make me laugh, and they make me wish he was here with me. And that voice. Ohmygod." (Barbara, Boston.) "You don't want to listen to these stories in your car, you'll drive off the road. And you want to be careful listening to them at night, because you'll want to go looking under your neighbor's shades to see if it's them he's talking about. (Jim, Miami) "...Just when you think you know where he's taking you, he takes you some place else. Actually you take yourself someplace else, because mostly he's making you fill in what happens next." (Betsy, L.A.)

Dick says: "I spent a lot of years doing late night radio. People called the guy on the air in those days/nights, and sometimes they'd just request a song, but very often they'd start telling me about the things that were keeping them awake. Some of the things they told me, they wouldn't tell their therapists. It was safe. They were anonymous. And they just wanted to talk to somebody. It was a privilege to be that somebody for all those years. I'm a pilot, and now, when I fly at night, I often look down at the lights in the homes below, and I wonder what the people there are doing. It's such a mysterious mix. People are laughing, crying, working, earning or losing each other's trust, saving or taking somebody's life, and of course...making love. Some of their stories are here in Night Connections 3. If you listen carefully, you might even find yourself here. I hope you do.

He's Done It Again
Well once again the master has done it. Peering into our inner most thoughts and telling them to us out loud. The difference here is that there are some "connections" that surprise us. Surprise us in ways that make us smile, and in ways that we say, "didn't see that one coming". His craftsmanship with words is why we keep coming back again and again, not to mention that silky smooth "like comfort food" voice of his. One example of his phrasing from "Neighbors" is where we would say something like our heart is broken, Dick puts it in a very simply phrased "your heart is black and blue". Simple yes, did I think of that, no. That is what makes him who he is. His powers of observation, his naked eye for detail, and then having the guts to say it, are what makes this disc stand out. I think you will not only thank him for Night Connections 3, but yourself for being smart enough to get it.

"Night Connections 3"
To say that Dick Summer’s “Night Connections 3” is a collection of short stories read by the author is to miss the point. Yes, it’s a dozen stories about loves lost, found and forgotten, but what makes this audio anthology from the master of late night romance soar is the performance. Dick Summer’s voice sifts through the listener’s mind like pipe smoke near the ceiling in a jazz club after hours. His characters—captured falling in or out of love—are the distant souls from a Frank Sinatra torch song waiting for the right someone to come along…or to come back. They don’t know he’s there, whispering their lives, but they do know they’re alive and longing to share their existence with whoever is hidden in the smoky edges of consciousness where real life hides. “Night Connections 3” is tranquility and passion, a soft breeze through an apartment window high above Fifth Avenue in autumn. It’s the sound people make when they need to sigh but are afraid someone might hear. You’ll lean into the lives Dick Summer creates from the smoke near the ceiling and, perhaps, recognize a familiar face or the curve of the neck of a former lover beckoning you to lean in closer and…listen.

Dick has a Problem
Dick has a problem, he has created another hit, a really nice problem to have! I have listened to his latest offering, Night Connections 3, four or five times now. He has touched a nerve this time, a deep sensitive nerve. His smooth delivery, soft yet powerful words and his deep respect for all of the listeners emotions shine through. Dick makes you believe that the story you are listening to was written just for you. Yes, Dick has a problem and I for one hope he continues to have these problems for many more years to come!

Dick has a Problem
Yes, I am here to tell you Dick has a problem, he has created another hit! Night Connections 3 is another home run in Dick's long line of wonderful stories. This album has struck a nerve, a deep down sensitive nerve. As you listen you are drawn into each story. Each individual track will grap you, make you think, make you wonder and maybe even make you well up with emotions that you might have buried. Listening to this album I wondered if Dick had somehow written some of these stories for me personally. Yes my friends, Dick has a problem, a really GOOD problem. I hope that he continues to produce these problems for years to come!
