Album Notes
Happy Valentines Days. My kids love this holiday. I do too. It's so simple and lovely and requires lots of paper and glue and sparkly art supplies, chocolate, kisses, soft colors, friendship. It's so simple, especially after the chaos and LARGEness of Christmas. I also like how it's a precursor to spring and invites ideas of flowers and new growth, love and warmth. I wrote this song to go with a Youtube Video I made. I recorded it here in Mar Vista and today Brad Jones, who mixed it for me in Nashville, sent me the mixed version. It's very pretty. it's my first try recording and playing the banjo (my dad's). And, as Brad discovered in the recording session files, i played banjo live as i was singing. he also found a harmony on the guitar track and another on the ukulele track. So he couldn't do much in the way of "fixing" any vocals. What you hear here is a true recording of me singing my little holiday song in the studio - very live, authentic and in the moment. Can you tell it was a cold day in January (2011)? I hope you download it for your kids and that you have a lovely Valentines Day. "It's a day to make pretty pink cards... yeah yeah"
