ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
The Doc Jake Trio is an imaginary jazz group created by composer Zig Mantell. As Zig imagines it, "The Doc Jake Trio were lost in one of the last nuclear tests in Nevada in 1962 as they performed as the house band at the Moon Room Lounge situated in the test site area. The tapes were found years later lying in the desert of Area 51." Zig has been composing piano music for improvisation since the 70's. The jazz trio style he primarily works has been a labor of love to the tradition of small clubs, smoky rooms, and background music in the private worlds of its patrons. Finding like minded musicians and making a living at this has been, for Zig, impossible to pay the rent on. Unwilling to compromise the music, Zig spent his energies working alone while employed in the "real world". Although Zig worked over the years as a solo pianist and had released CD's for the Proxima Label, (Chrome, and Ruby Blue), the jazz trio format was still just a dream. Enter the world of the personal (orchard product) computer and the advancements of digital programs and keyboards. Zig has learned to work with these programs and created The Moon Room Sessions as his initial foray into this world. Zig not only has performed here on the piano, but created the bass and drum tracks as well. While Doc Jake as the drummer and Kasper White the bassist are fictions in this CD, it is a testament to the appreciation of the genre and will perhaps transport you, the listener to a simpler time when the music was a background in your cool sophisticated life. Enjoy the Doc Jake Trio with an evening dining at home, a glass of wine with friends, driving your car, reading a book, or lying in bed with The Doc Jake Trio on the stereo. Then again, in your private domain, they should be an ipod staple, a musical background on your computer, for this Trio is as contemporary as they are a "blast in the past". The Doc Jake Trio may have "disappeared" in 1962 but that is just part of the fantasy for your enjoyment as new tapes are discovered laying around Area 51. Until next time, thank you for your interest, and enjoy!
