The recipient of “Album of the Year” at the 2007 Canadian Country Music Awards was Doc Walker. A satisfied nod of approval made its way through the industry sector of the audience that night as the win was acknowledged as much deserved. The members of Doc Walker – Chris Thorsteinson, Dave Wasyliw and Murray Pulver, from outside of Winnipeg Manitoba, have a tough act to follow – their own! The new body of work lusciously titled “Beautiful Life” has been a year in the making and with Justin Niebank (Producer credits: Vince Gill’s latest GRAMMY winning release, Van Zant, Lonestar /Mixing credits: Keith Urban, Rascal Flatts, John Mellencamp etc) producing the project, it promises to be another great collection of songs. The album launch kicks off with the title track “Beautiful Life” being serviced to radio on Feb 15th and the video, directed by Chris Hickey (Keith Urban, Dierks Bentley, Little Big Town) debuting on CMT on February 20th, 2008. The rest of the album is stacked with Doc Walker originals (including “Beautiful Life”) and co-writes including two with revered fellow Canadian writers Carolyn Dawn Johnson and Deric Ruttan.
Much awarded and charted (last album charted 5 singles in top 10 and designated them the most played Canadian Country act of 2007 according to Mediabase) with a very respectable fan base from coast to coast, a long list of high profile tours they have supported like Bon Jovi, Lonestar, Dierks Bentley, Terri Clark and Paul Brandt and non-stop travel back and forth from Manitoba to Nashville to write and record with some of country music’s most prolific songwriters, players and producers has made it a rewarding life for the boys of Doc Walker so far but it has really only just begun. There are few other acts out there that house this kind of talent…the more than impressive tones piped out by Thorsteinson, the outstanding guitar skills of Murray Pulver and the mountainous harmonies contributed by both Wasyliw and Pulver. Together they create a sound that hits the spot, that makes you want to drive the open road, to stand on a corner in Winslow, Arizona… all that good stuff that music is supposed to make you feel.
Look for the new full album, “Beautiful Life” to be released April 29th followed by a cross Canada tour in May that includes multiple dates in BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Ontario along with the all important home town play in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
