One of Life's mysteries concerns the apportioning of talent - why most of us have very little of it while a few gifted individuals seem to have far more than seems remotely fair. Don Cherry, Golfer and Singer is just such an individual.
The eighteenth century philosopher Voltaire wrote about experiencing "the
best of both possible worlds". He may have had Don Cherry in mind when he
penned those words as he is the only person ever to hold successful dual
careers. Don is the only person in history to have had a million seller hit record and also to have finished in the top ten in the US OPEN in golf. In fact, many of Don's fans think him
as two different men. Some know him as Don Cherry the golfer; others know
him as Don Cherry the singer. But most know him as the “Singing Golfer”. He played the in The Masters 8 times and had a great chance to win in the 1960 US OPEN while playing it7 times. After wining the Walker Cup in Scotland Don was asked to sing “I Believe” on the steps of St Andrew’s to 5,000 Scotsmen. This was one of the most memorable and exciting times of Don’ Illustrious Career
Donald Ross Cherry was born January 11, 1924 in Wichita Falls, Texas and was the youngest of three children. He is known as “Mr. Band Of Gold”. Don also had many other hits such as “Vanity” “Ghost Town” “Thinking Of You”. Don has played many night clubs all over the world including performing in every hotel on the strip in Las Vegas. Don also starred on many Television shows as “The Dean Martin Show”, The Merv Griffin Show” “Hee Haw” and many other hit television shows.
Just a little ditty, Don was also the voice for the “Mr. Clean” commercial the longest running commercial ever, it ran for nine years.
