ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Donna's soulful voice is unlike any other in today's realm of devotional music artists. Blending Eastern and Western influences, she creates beguiling original compositions that weave English lyrics with familiar Sanskrit mantras. A devoted student of yoga and spiritual teachings, De Lory's lushly conceived solo albums, like her 2009 ecstatic groove Sanctuary, are not only inspired by Western pop, but Indian devotional music, Sanskrit mantras, Northern African grooves, psychedelic arrangements, and dance beats. Donna blends her rich spiritual practice, sonic collages and diverse musical inspirations into a unique, world music-meets-kirtan style that's been called "the perfect combination of earth Mama and fairy child, with a voice that oscillates between the passionate laments of Janis Joplin and the crystal clarity of Enya." De Lory recently played two dates on the 2010 Lilith Fair Tour. "It was really amazing," she says, "Most of the artists were pop-rock on the bill, so it was interesting for me, being the world music, devotional person. I did songs in English and Sanskrit and it came off great. People are so open to diversity at these festivals. Mary J Blige was a huge highlight for me to watch. And Sarah McLachlan is such an angel. We both have two girls around the same ages and were comparing notes."Now completely focused on her own career, De Lory previously devoted 20 years to recording and touring with Madonna. She sang on hit albums like "Ray of Light" and "Like a Prayer," and Madonna even sang backing vocals on her debut album. At her last show with the superstar in 2007, De Lory sang before 70,000 fans at the London Live Earth concert. Music has always been a catalyst in De Lory’s life. "Music connects me to the divine. Playing music is my yoga, it is my bliss. When I play, I get lost in the music, my mind stops, I am in the moment and I am free. This is a place I never want to leave."
