ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
This debut album, 'surrender', is a unique tapestry of sound, featuring Bay Area songstress, 'drea', who wrote these ten originals on guitar and piano (with the exception of 'ice', which is a capella) and then collaborated with acclaimed Bay Area musician and producer Mark Growden, who arranged the songs (with the exception of 'red shoes', which was arranged by New Orleans pianist Larry Sieberth). Recorded in New Orleans at much-loved Piety Street Studios in a short period of time, the songs are full of live energy--some songs, such as 'ribbons', are electric with the organic interplay of voice and instruments--and the album is masterfully engineered by Mark Bingham and Wesley Fontenot, creating a refinement and elegance of sound that never loses its raw emotion.

Excavations of heart and mind, drea's songs are lyrics-driven, evoking unexpected imagery and nuanced meaning. Marked by rich, gut-powerful vocals and Growden's beautifully textured arrangements, ‘surrender’ is a poignant collection of melodies that resonate, revealing something new with every listen.
