A very good and ambitious project which I cannot other than applaud!
...medieval fantasy mood music with more hints of darkness than light.

If you like bands like Erdenstern you will probably drool while listening to Dronolan’s Tower.

When I saw the artwork I thought of Midnight Syndicate but oh so wrong I was. This is far beyond what Midnight Syndicate could even dream of! It’s actually in the same league as the more experienced top dogs in this genre. "The Battle of Shadow Pass" is without a doubt the best track on the CD and I love it.

I have almost nothing bad to say about this great release. I though would like to hear something a bit more unique from time to time. David list (on his myspace site) John Williams, Jerry Goldsmith, Danny Elfman, Hans Zimmer, Basil Poledouris (and others) as influences and you can hear that in the music. Some might say too much.

To be honest this is a very good and ambitious project which I cannot other than applaud!

Very impressive debut from a creative new talent.
Legends of Kitholan offers original instrumental accompaniment to bring your medieval fantasies to life. Advertised as "music by gamers, for gamers," the album was specifically designed as a soundtrack to enrich fantasy
roleplaying games like Dungeons & Dragons, offering 16 tracks that are tailor-made to accent various adventure scenarios. Composer and musician David Allen Young produces some wonderfully inspirational pieces. Tracks like "The Traveller's Song" and "Lady Elowyn" deliver a lighter fare with delicate harps and romantic strings, but the real standout cuts are the dramatic pieces like "Charge of the Valiant" and the epic "The Battle of Shadow Pass," which are sure to inspire gamers with powerful orchestrations, pounding drums and chanting choirs. This is a very impressive debut from a creative new talent. Recommended.

Think John Williams meets Basil Poledouris with a bit of Vangelis
Dronolan's Tower is billed as "Music By Gamers for Gamers" which does a great disservice to this high-fantasy, even epic, score. This CD is not some fannish effort that simply passes muster, but a full-fledged musical delight. For those of you who enjoy movie soundtracks (and I am one of you), think John Williams meets Basil Poledouris with a bit of Vangelis sprinkled in to leaven the entire work. But don't make the mistake of thinking that this work is derivative - it does have its own unique flavor. I was amazed at how well this soundtrack evoked a world and the journey through its landscape. As I listened, I felt as if I were following a fully-delineated story filled with monsters, heroes and worthy adversaries. The titles are equally evocative - Balisaar's Great Beast, Voyage of the Defiant, and The Redemption of Lord Michael. In fact, don't wait for a gaming session as an excuse to pick up this soundtrack. You should enjoy it on its merits alone and find that repeated playings are in order. Perhaps the best part of this soundtrack is the promise implied by the words "Vol. 1". Surely there will be a Volume 2 and perhaps a Volume 3. I'm hooked and look forward to hearing the continuation of the story with quite a bit of anticipation. You should be, too.

Two words… “Awe… some!”
From the depths of the darkest cavern, to the shadows of the deepest forests, to the blood drenched and body littered fields of battle, “Legends of Kitholan” provides a musical background to inspire players and game masters alike... Music, if chosen carefully can help enhance any gaming experience and help your players feel the tension, to feel frightened, to get excited. David Allen Young has successfully made music that is very well suited for gaming. The music takes the listeners on a great fantasy adventure - from great battles, horrible encounters, desolate ruins, and the welcoming hearth of a warm tavern where stories of great deeds are being told by candlelight... One of the pit-falls of many that produce this type of music is the over use of synthesizers and a ‘tinny” sound to the music. Fortunately, this CD does not suffer from that in any way... This is a great CD, to just sit back and listen to, to read a book to, or to play while running my players through my favorite adventures. The composer David Allen Young knows his craft, his target audience, and the subject. I can’t wait to see future release from him! I am happy to give this CD a high recommendation.
