Drum Safari was started by Brandon and Teryn Draper as a children and family drum show for libraries, festivals, daycare, hospice, churches, and drum circles. They met in their college percussion ensemble and are both full time educators and had their first child Eva in 2009. The rest is well..."history!"
Brandon's college roommate and fellow percussionist Josh Conner is the third member of Drum Safari and also a middle school science teacher.
They have been bringing their drumming to groups all across the midwest for years and Brandon is a professional drummer, percussionist with many tours and recordings to his credit. Upon relocating to the mid-west from the Santa Fe/Albuquerque area in 2006 they teamed up with nationally known music therapist and drum circle guru "Bongo" Barry Bernstein. Four days after the birth of Eva in 2009 Barry unexpectedly passed away in his sleep. Teryn and Brandon continue Bongo Barry's path of bringing rhythm-based music, education and therapy to families and communities everywhere.
Empowerment, confidence, equality, sharing and love are at the center of the Drum Safari program. As Barry always sang in a song written with his oldest daughter "you are a bright light, perfect just the way you are."
