The Dryads Duo, formed in 2010 by portuguese violinist Carla Santos and portuguese pianist Saul Picado, focuses on repertoire from the late 19th century to the present day. The violin and piano Duo seek to explore and present lesser performed works, which are no less worthy than their better-known counterparts.
With this focus in mind, they participated in the 25th edition of the “Prémio Jovens Músicos” Competition in Portugal (2011) and were awarded the First Prize in the Chamber Music category.
Since then, the Dryads Duo have appeared in concert halls across Portugal, including Grande Auditório at Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian where they were recorded and broadcasted live for Antena 2, Museu da Música Portuguesa – Casa Verdades de Faria and Teatro Nacional de São Carlos. In May 2012 the Dryads Duo played in the International Music Festival “Primavera Musical” in Castelo Branco. In July of the same year, they participated in the 38th edition of Estoril’s Music Festival.
In London, they have performed at St Peter’s - Notting Hill, St Mary Abbots, Netherhall House Auditorium and Norfolk House Music Room at the Victoria & Albert Museum.
In September 2012, the Dryads Duo made their first appearance at Casa da Música, where they premiered the piece “On a quiet place” for violin, piano and live electronics, written by the composer Igor C. Silva, Young Composer in Residence at Casa da Música 2012.
