"I was recently surprised when I received a copy of a CD project I played on. In the studio it was hard to tell what the end result was to be. I was smiling ear to ear when I heard Dwayna’s wonderful voice on the recording. She has such great presence and control. I was very impressed with the down to earth and soulful feeling conveyed in her music. I’d be happy to share the stage with Dwayna in any musical situation. Keep your eyes and ears focused on her! She’s an angel..." --John Allred, Jazz Trombonist
DWAYNA LITZ "COUNTING YOUR BLESSINGS' ALBUM REVIEW BY JAZZ LIVES: http://jazzlives.wordpress.com/2012/02/18/dwayna-litz-can-sing/
Dwayna Litz – Counting Your Blessings (CD) / 2012 Self / 13 Tracks / http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/dwaynalitz4
The ability of Litz to crossover from jazz to pop and soul is simply unsurpassed; Counting Your Blessings is a perfect introduction to her eclectic style. Old Friends is able to immediately ensnare fans, with Litz’s vocals bolstered considerably by the backing band. This is not a static relationship – Litz’s vocals pull double-duty as early as during Someone To Watch Over Me. While she still provides the track’s narration, the harmonies achieved during this track could not be possible without Litz’s inimitable vocals.
Counting Your Blessing is one of those rare albums that increase its momentum throughout; late-disc tracks like Litz’s version of Somewhere Over The Rainbow and What A Wonderful World breathe new life into these classics. The title settles with a one-two punch; listeners are borne on Litz’s vocals through Cross Over The Bridge, while He Looked Beyond My Fault showcases the reality that no one person can make it alone. Dwayna Litz has a great sound on Counting Your Blessings, and I believe it is primarily due to the intersections of vocal and musical that are present here. I like the production of this album, but would honestly like to hear how Litz could light up a room; I’m sure there is soul and passion abound whenever she starts a set.
Make sure to pick up a copy of Counting Your Blessings today and see how Litz is able to evolve through the course of her next recordings. I know I will be spinning Anything Goes and Counting Your Blessings for the summer and beyond; you can do the same just as soon as you pick this up.
