Album Notes
In 2012, Eastbound Jesus graced the cover of Albany's alternative newsweekly Metroland, shared the stage with national acts such as the Felice Brothers and North Mississippi Allstars and released their album Holy Smokes to widespread acclaim. Building on this strong momentum, the prolific upstate New York sextet is back with their third full length in as many years. Though it's tempting to call the music bluegrass due to the omnipresent banjo, Northern Rock sees the band expanding on the sound of their previous records by further exploring the boundaries of psychedelia, old school country, and straight up rock 'n roll. Though clearly inspired by a diverse range of musical influences, the songs themselves are tied together by the stories they tell and vivid pictures they paint as they sonically express the experience of living life and getting by in a small upstate town.

No frills, just music
This is the 3rd album by Eastbound Jesus. I own all three. The level of maturity that the band has reached is very impressive. Still an independent band, Eastbound Jesus doesn't seem interested in popularity contests or sexy images. They just want to make the music that they live and breathe. Their 2nd album was a little more spread out in terms of different musical styles, and it seems that they have finally arrived at a defined style, which they call "Northern Rock." Crunchy lead solos on a Les Paul, combined with the rural whine of the steel lap guitar, jingling of the banjo, driving force of the bassline and the multiple harmonic vocals combine into a musical experience that anyone from a small northern town can enjoy.
