ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
In 1977, Inner City gathered together a roster of all-star jazz players and took them into a New York Studio to recreate with modern arrangements, some of the classic Eddie Jefferson songs that have become a part of vocal jazz in our times.

“In arranging Eddie Jefferson’s re-emergence as a performer in his own right, Inner City Records has given long overdue credit to a creative and catalytic artist who for too many years remained in the shadow of other’s successes. I hope that the release of this album will help substantially to set the record straight, for if ever there was a moment when recognition was due to him for the ideas in which he pioneered, certainly as Charlie “Bird” Parker would have said, now is the time.”

- Lenoard Feather, The Encyclopedia of Jazz

At Last!!!!
first a small gripe, or should I say pet peeve. For the life of me I can not figure out why some music is locked away in some vault for what seem like for ever. I had given up on ever getting this on CD
In fact I had stopped searching for it about a year ago. What made me look again was somebody had the old Album that i use to have for sale on Ebay and I asked them to rip it to MP3 and sell it to me.

Why not? The record company was content to have it sitting in the vault not selling, so what the hell.
Anyway, that's what made me take one more look. Lo and behold CD baby had it. Thank you.

Now on to the music. This has always been my favorite EJ album, My favorite cuts are Bennies from from heaven and Summertime. The CD is worth the price just for those two cuts. What I had long forgotten was just how good the rest of the cd was as well. This is a must have Eddie Jefferson CD that has languished in some stuffy vault for way to long.

Now if someone would free “ Steve Aliens Hip Fables “ from the record companies vault, I can die a happy camper
