The recording of “God’s Love Song” began in Detroit, continued in San Francisco and was finally completed in Hollywood. There are many special aspects about this song. For example, the combination of legendary musicians, singers and engineers contributed to the unique body of this project. The recording was completed in 1978, just prior to an extensive national college and university concert tour. This time period was also marked by one of the most difficult professional decisions I ever had to make. The decision concerned two important performance dates, both of which were scheduled at exactly the same time, in two distant places. For one engagement, Eddie was featured performer the major league professional athletes [hockey, baseball, basketball, football players] at the Disney World Hotel in Orlando, during spring training camp. The second schedule was a feature performance, representing the United States, and Detroit, at the World Festival of Arts in Nigeria West Africa. Hear more about this decision and the outcome in an upcoming book. You'll be surprised to hear which decision was made and what happened afterwards. In that same year, Eddie traveled an extensive 30 day tour of throughout Japan.
Upon returning to the USA, an extensive college campus tour across the continent was organized. This tour included performances at major universities from California to Virginia and from Seattle to Florida. These were the times and experiences that called for a special project which would include the song "God's Love Song." Students away from home felt the need to connect with someone more powerful than themselves who could help them pull through tough times. This purpose of this song was similar to a mission with the objective of encouraging and inspiring listeners to find peace and relief from worries and stress brought on by feelings of loneliness and limitations.
Musicians featured on this recording are Eddie Robinson- piano/ keyboards, along with some of America's greatest musical talents; Bobby Franklin - drums, Freddie "guy" Hutson - Bass, Simone Vitalli - acoustic guitar, percussionist, Jerry Paul. [Detroit,] Danny Smallwood - Alto Sax, Melvin Seals, [California] and Gerald Johnson.
Accompanying voices featured on this song included California's best, the most powerful and beautiful voices anywhere; hats off to Daz Patterson, Carla Springs and Vanessa Johnson.
