Album Notes
"Rushing to the Wedding" is a great album with a wide variety of latin rythms shown with very distinctive class. Elegant compositions with the influence of latin jazz harmonies and traditional rhythms protrude the endless possibilities of the guitar in the latin genre. Thumbs up to Eduardo Rocha for giving us these compositions that project his artistic reflections and moods in his maturing process of writing music.

Born and raised in México City, Eduardo Rocha has traveled and performed extensively in Europe, Israel and Latin America. Eduardo toured and performed for many years on harp and guitar, but after his long trip to South America in 2001 he became inspired to turn his talent toward composition. The rhythms and songs on this CD are the result of his reflections from that adventure.
Eduardo is a self-taught musician; he holds a degree in Oceanography and has always been involved in environmental issues. He is also trained in landscape architecture.
This is his second compact disc of original compositions. Eduardo also plays the traditional Mexican Jarocha Harp and his first CD "Mirando Siempre al Mar" ("Looking Always to the Sea") features both instrumental and vocal tunes in Spanish language with harp accompaniment and was released in 2005 (CD Baby). He lives in Connecticut USA, where he performs his original music and also performs traditional Mexican music with his Mariachi Band ( He tours continuously New England and travels regularly to México.

This talented guitarist and collaborative artist joins Eduardo Rocha on the CD “Rushing to the Wedding” to bring life to his beautiful compositions. Known for her extraordinarily deep, rich tone quality and elegant phrasing, Judy’s performance compliments and etherealizes Eduardo's 14 original works. She has performed internationally: in the U.S., South America and México.
Imagine the haunting sonority of Segovia combined with the rhythmic feel and colorful harmonies of Jobim – that is Judy’s sound on this CD. Her great love for the guitar finds expression in Eduardo’s inspired compositions. Her tutorship with the great masters Phillip de Fremery (a protégé of Andre Segovia) and the Duo Assad from Brazil is reflected in these interpretations.
Other CD’s on which Judy Simonds performs: “Manha de Carnival” and “Carribean Holiday.”

Outstanding Latin Guitar CD
"Rushing to the Wedding" features the soothing latin guitar work of virtuoso, Eduardo Rocha. The CD is filled with many elements of latin american rhythms, as well as Reggae, Jazz, and Classical, with a modern flair. Eduardo is a superior and well-balanced guitarist who has a feel for mood and tone. Eduardo keeps the tracks interesting and innovative. The recording quality and production nicely provide a crystal clear recording that allows Eduardo's fantastic guitar work to cut through the tracks nicely. "In the Sunken Garden" leads things off and sets the table nicely with a jazz/lounge feel and memorable guitar work. Other highlights are "Memories of Old Spain," a flamenco number (appropriately enough) and "Giving Joy to the Streets," a beautiful classical piece. If you enjoy beautiful classical guitar work with a latin flavor, you'll enjoy this CD.

Rushing to the Wedding
This album is lovely. Diverse syles of music and lovely harmonies between instruments. I loved the first album "Mirando Siempre al Mar", but this one is just as good if different. Bravo to Eduardo Rpcha and Judy Simmonds for this fine collaboration.

Rushing to the Wedding
Two words that best describe Eduardo Rocha’s Rushing to the Wedding Cd for me are romance & rythym – it’s one of the best instrumental Cds I’ve ever heard. While I usually keep my Cds shelved in alphabetical order, this one won’t ever make it to the shelf because it’s been on my Cd player table since day one. Eduardo’s Mexican upbringing shines through in the authenticity of his original compositions, and in rythyms which range from bossa nova and samba to the flamenco feel of old Spain. Reaching beyond his Latin influences, Eduardo’s collection contains some real jazzy numbers … and a beautiful waltz that starts out like a formal Bach lute piece, and ending in a loose, dreamlike series of falling notes that will sweep you off your feet. Eduardo’s playful exploration and variations of melodic lines, combined with Judy Simond’s masterful classical guitar work, make for a fantastic listening experience that doesn’t grow old with repeated play. One of the joys of this work is that it is not over-produced … each instrument adds just the needed touch to build a foundation to underscore the melodies. Close your eyes as you listen and let your imagination wander – from warm breezes blowing in off a moonlit sea - to brown-shouldered dancers whirling in bright silks – a meditative and musical wonder that will take you out of the “here and now” and into an exotic space you will love. The liner notes are also worth a review: great photography, and Eduardo’s song-by-song comments in both English and Spanish. Yes, this is a five-star rating from a devoted fan …Cece Borjeson.
