ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Born on the gritty streets of NYC, ej has seen his share of trials and tribulations... um, what the HELL?!? Ok. Here is the truth. I grew up in Teaneck, NJ. Birth place of such greats as the Isley Brothers and DMX, as well as the temporary home of the late great Notorious B.I.G. Teaneck was a very cool place to grow up. Not just because of it being so close to NYC, but also because it gave me a chance to have a circle of friends so much more diverse than I would have imagined. I never really knew racism until I left there. My folks told me that they picked Teaneck because of how well it was integrated and because they wanted me and my brother to feel comfortable (for those that don't know me, my mom is African-American and my step dad is white. Because I can't remember a time when he wasn't in my life, This is probably the only time you'll EVER hear me call him my step dad. so as far as I'm concerned, he's the real deal.) After leaving Teaneck I realized that the mindset that I had grown up with didn't always apply to the outside world. Coming from where I came from, I never really considered the color of anyone that I dated. But it wasn't that way for everybody else. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that everyone had a problem with it, but the ones who did really made themselves known. Black, White, Asian. You name it. There are haters in every race. When I talk about this with my friends the questions seems to be "How did we get here?" but I think we've always been here. The real question should be "How do we get outta here?" When someone figures that out, let me know. Because this question is one of the driving forces behind my writing. I don't just want to make a change, i need to make a change..say something to help us all "get outta here." The
thing is, "getting outta here" can be different for each individual. For me "getting us outta here" is getting us out of the trappings of the societal
dictatorship that has been imposed on anyone not down with status quo. I want to help get us(everyone reading this) to the place where we actually want to be... together. My songs are about everything from the trying to free myself from the constrictions imposed on me as a person of color here in the USA and what that supposedly means, to my best friend's love for his daughter, and everything in between. My hope is that I can do a couple of things that will make each one of us think about "getting us outta here". I want to address feelings and moments in life that are universal, sublimely human. My music is for everyone. Message driven, storytelling songs with unstoppable grooves, meant to mean something to anyone who listens. I know they mean everything to me.

Peace.
