Album Notes
Elixir was formed in London, England in 1983 by Dobbs brothers Kevin (bass) and Nigel (drums), and Phil Denton (guitars). The line-up was completed in 1984 by Paul Taylor (vocals) and Stormin’ Norman Gordon (guitars). The band toured extensively through the UK in 1985 – 1987, appearing at such prestigious venues as the famous Marquee Club in London, and The Ruskin Arms, London’s notorious East End pub made famous from Iron Maiden’s early appearances there. The band took time out from touring to record the acclaimed ‘The Son of Odin’ album (Classic Album of the Month – Sweden Rock Magazine, Top 20 Power Metal Album of All Time – Terrorizer Magazine) in January 1986, and a Friday Rock Show Session for BBC Radio 1 in February 1986. The Dobbs brothers left the ranks in 1987, and with a second album ready to be recorded, Elixir recruited Mark White on bass and Clive Burr from Iron Maiden on drums. The resulting album, ‘Sovereign Remedy’ was recorded in 1988. Without the major label interest the band had hoped for, and no more avenues left to explore, the band ceased activity in 1989. In 2001, a Greek label, Cult Metal Classics, re-released ‘The Son of Odin’ on CD and invited the five original members to re-form to headline the Heavy Metal Assault Festival in Athens, Greece. Since then the band have unleashed their ‘old-school’ style of Classic Heavy Metal on audiences around the World, appearing at festivals in Greece, Germany, Italy, Spain, Sweden and the USA, and releasing two new studio albums, ‘The Idol’ (2002) and ‘Mindcreeper’ (2006), along with a live album ‘Elixir Live’. The band released their 5th and final studio album, ‘All Hallows Eve’, on October 31st 2010. Whilst not a concept album, ‘All Hallows Eve’ has a theme running through the songs, culminating in the 14 minute epic ‘Samhain’ as the finale. Elixir disbanded in 2012, but songwriting duo Paul Taylor and Phil Denton continue working together with their great new band Midnight Messiah. Midnight Messiah released their debut album 'The Root of All Evil' in 2013 to great acclaim, many reviewers commenting not only on the great quality of the material, but also the astonishing talents of new lead guitarist Dave Strange. 'The Root of All Evil' can be previewed and bought here at CD Baby.
