“Leave It All Behind” is the debut self-release to come from Exeter based Ella Janes. 21 year old Ella grew up in Winchester, moving to Exeter to study French Literature. This EP charts her move to Nantes in 2012, where she spent a year writing and turning French ears to her intricate fingerstyle guitar playing and warm whispering vocals. Ella writes and performs her own music, sometimes on guitar, sometimes on her ukulele or mandolin and was selected for Glastonbury's Emerging Talent 2012 LongList. In 2012, she toured with nu-folkers Ellen and the Escapades, resulting in the borrowing of keys player Christopher Quick for this EP. ‘Leave It All Behind’ is to be followed by a new full band EP in January 2014.
''Ella has a unique quality to her voice that had the other guests in my studio pleasantly suprised - even one who a claimed not to be 'a folky fan'. There's a subtle frailty which gives the songs a real emotion. I would be happy to have Ella back on the show at any time.'' (John Govier, BBC Radio Devon)
''At 20, Ella is a consummate professional, with a talent that belies her age. She has the ability to take a dark, cold and miserable night outside, and turn it into something magical and entertaining. Her live show is always evolving, and she's not afraid to try new things. A class act.'' (James Knights, Scarlet Soho)
"Ella sings with an ethereal grace – an elegant whispering that catches in the air and pleases the ear with its delicacy. Coincide this with the foot-tap strumming of the slide-guitar or the mandolin or the catalogue of other stringed instruments that form Ella Janes’s musical arsenal and you are greeted with a unique musical treat. Like spider-silk; her voice may be delicate but it bares enough strength to carry the passion that seeps from her melodies. Behind the folky and cheerful rhythmic pulse you realise lyrics that bestow personal soliloquies. Ella does not shy from exploring intimate emotions and as such, sings with an engaging passion."
