El mal Café is a 100% acoustic fusion band based in Puerto Rico, which blends eclectic styles and rhythms, such as trova (Puerto Rican Folk), rock, flamenco, plena and world music.
Recently, the eponymous CD was selected among 2003's Top 20 Albums by the Puerto Rican Popular Culture Foundation, stating that the production includes "exemplary percussion and string arrangements with top notch lyrics".
El mal café uses a wide range of instruments, including: six and twelve string acoustic guitars, mandolin, acoustic bass, flute, strings and latin, brazilian and african percussion. In their live shows, the musicians exchange instruments between songs.
