ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Ensemble Evolution created “Sounds from the Treetops” in partnership with the Treehotel (Harads, Sweden) to celebrate the culture, landscapes, and innovative atmosphere of their unique working environment. Each of the six tracks is inspired by one of the tree houses, while recalling all aspects of life in Northern Sweden, from the icy metallic ring of a still day in deep winter to the otherworldly loneliness of a late night walk under the midnight sun.

As one of world's most iconic boutique hotels, the Treehotel consists of six architecturally adventurous and artistically awe-inspiring tree houses. Providing exceptional inspiration for the ensemble, the venue, along with various community organizations, commissioned the works and sponsored the premiere series of performances. The compositions were performed next to, underneath, or inside each of the structures on June 9, 2012 as a part of the ensemble’s farewell tour, Nattmusik (Night Music). Guest musicians Anna K. Larson, soprano (Sweden), and Angela Shankar, clarinet (NY) joined the ensemble to give the program a fresh sound and the composers access to new timbres.
