ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Perhaps one of the most amazing aspects of Jazz is its ever-changing nature. Those of us who are drawn to playing it and listening to it, are always looking for new ways to approach it. In addition to it’s rich legacy, Jazz has a repertoire, tradition and language. If you’re conversant, you can show up at a jam session anywhere on the planet and not feel out of place. But there’s also a tradition of re-invention. We deconstruct, borrow/steal/modify and graft melodies, harmonies, sounds and rhythms from anything that catches our ear and add those tasty new ingredients into the Jazz stew.

In Search of Blue is our second CD. These ten tracks are all original compositions by members of Epicenter. In the writing and playing you’ll detect that shared common language of jazz, but with a variety of shadings and hues. You’ll hear snippets of straight-ahead bop, blues, funk, pop, latin, gospel, fusion, odd-meters and some unusual harmonic progressions. They’re all part of the mix. For us, the intersection of those influences—and the musical journey they launch us on—is where the fun begins.
