Dark neoclassical in the Cold Meat Industry style
Enthusiasts of Sweden's Cold Meat Industry label should check this one out. Beautiful but dark, heavy and doom-laden electro-orchestral score for Paul Wegener's 1920s German Expressionist film based on the Jewish legend about a 16th Century Rabbi (also a Kabbalist and Alchemist) who brings to life a magical clay statue to defend the Jews of Prague from persecution. But the Golem thus created is a tragic monster, like Frankenstein's, who longs to experience the simple life of ordinary mortals. (Wegener made two earlier Golem films, but this one is considered his masterpiece).

Good movie, and this is a very good soundtrack to listen to while enjoying it. Purely as music, it's OK but doesn't have enough development and variation to suit the taste of most Classical listeners. But hey--it's WAY atmospheric, less cheesy than Midnight Syndicate, and entirely suitable for Halloween parties or haunted houses.
