Recorded live in Penarth, Wales, on a Fazioli F228.
Critics have hailed Ernest So as a performer who exerts a “phenomenon presence on stage” and who “evokes the romanticism and technical brilliance of a 19th century pianist”. A graduate of the Juilliard School in New York, Ernest was a student of legendary pianist and Beethoven scholar Jacob Lateiner. Well-known for his wide repertoire, his recitals often include not only standard concert works by composers such as Beethoven and Chopin, but also masterworks by lesser known Russian, French, Spanish, and Latin American composers, such as Medtner, Kapustin; Poulenc, Aubert; Mompou, Blancafort; Guastavino, Ponce; Godowsky, Chasins, and many others.
Past recordings include a CD on Latin American music, featuring composers from Argentina, Mexico and Brazil.
This volume presents little known French composers Louis Aubert (1877 - 1968) and Lucien Wurmser (1877 - 1967), who were both pianist-composers of the highest order. The 12 Preludes of Wurmser are appearing on recording for the first time. Detailed liner notes in English.
Bonus track: a gorgeous transcription of Debussy's famous chanson 'Beau Soir' by American pianist Koji Attwood, commissioned by Michael Lewin. More of his transcriptions will feature prominently in the upcoming CD "The Far Side of the Road", available in late 2013.
