Escape the Clouds' third album of steampunk music paints vivid characters, stories, and emotions through music and words. From the cautionary dieselpunk tale of a crack aerial hitman… to the Victorian lady succumbing to her illicit wants… to a Louisiana vampire hunter's last gig… to a fresh telling of the Jack the Ripper story, every track is distilled from ideas either historical or fictional – and many times both.
The album strikes a balance between aggressive and poignant. An eclectic palette of sounds lays the foundation. Heavy guitars and industrial-style percussion drive "One Bullet" and "The Sins of the Godly" onward and build beneath the Civil War-inspired "Warriors Without a War". Darker, electronic soundscapes are explored through "Lady in Waiting" - featuring the wonderfully sensual vocals of Unwoman – and the stark, sinister "The Surgeon's Widow." A counterpoint is found in the more delicate ukulele lines of "Until the End" and "Cogs and Queens".
One final, exciting note: Escape the Clouds has a tradition of offering free tracks after their album releases. Right out of the gate, the exclusive new track "Into the Light" – featuring Eli August's unique, passionate lyrics and vocals – is included with Until the End. Several additional tracks are in the works and will be released on the Escape the Clouds site once complete.
