Album Notes
The first international band on the Golly Gee Records label, Estrume'n'tal is a metal-surf-punk-instrumental band from Brazil with such diverse influences as The Ventures, Ramones, Dick Dale, Stooges, Man or Astro-Man? and traditional Brazilian hillbilly guitar, black music and Brazilian 60's musical vanguard movements. The sound is 'thick and intense', as Phil Dirt says, and the live performances are even more raw and powerful. Who would imagine Brazil would produce a surf music band so many light-years ahead of traditional surf.

"Estrume'n'tal is an innovative and energetic instrumental rock 'n' roll band from Brazil. There is a burgeoning surf music scene in Brazil that is putting out some very unique instro and I'm excited that Golly Gee Records has released this fine album by Estrume'n'tal. Their songs are turbo-charged with high energy and hard-driving, multi-layered rhythms while maintaining that essential element, melody, that is the mark of a good instrumental. Most of these songs are originals, but even the covers Estrume'n'tal make their own. I could go song-by-song and give detailed descriptions, but suffice it to say that after repeated listenings, I'm still discovering more to like about this album!"

Surf Punk from Brazil.
What a great find! I first heard them on the War of the Surf Guitars compilation (which I also strongly recommend). Estrume'n'tal plays fast, reverb drenched surf rock that DOES NOT disappoint! I think the coolest thing about this CD is that it contains a video. I think every band should do this. My favorite tracks include: Et De Varginha, Vacalgada, Sol Si Do Si Mi Re La, Casa Do Sol Nascente, and Baja. I especially love their interpretation of House of the Rising Sun(Casa Do Sol Nascente).
