ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
I've been playing guitar and singing for a long time, first in various 80's pop bands, and more recently in the traditional Irish music scene. Strangely enough, I've also recorded music with a really fantastic famous jazz drummer and with the keyboardist for the Strawbs and Renaissance. More recently, I've had the privilege of touring the American South and Midwest with the brilliant uilleann piper, Paddy Keenan, who objects to my snoring when we're forced to share a motel room, but that's okay.

This release was completed in record time during the month of October 2012. I think the pressure to complete a CD before the Midwest tour produced an album that is intense, energetic, and immediately present. I hope my love for the acoustic guitar is apparent here; I hope you can hear some of the depth and overtones of which a good guitar is capable. American bottleneck/slide and fingerpicking, original songs, and even an Irish reel are showcased here in a relaxed format, and are good with cold beer, good whiskey and octopus stew.

Here are a couple of comments on the CD:

"I first heard Eugene playing when he toured with the great Irish piper, Paddy Keenan. He did a great job backing the Irish tunes, which is deceptively hard music to accompany. The real surprise came when I heard the other music on his CD. He is obviously very much at home in many different genres of music, from traditional American music to singer/songwriter material. The guitar work is impressive, whether it be flatpicking or complex fingerpicking. All this, and a fine singing voice, make this a very enjoyable recording to listen to." -- Paul Garding, Barra, St. Paul, MN

"Great guitar playing and good singing. It is well recorded. I would like to hear an entire CD of Durk and then a different CD of trad! Again, I love it. I think your guitar playing is REALLY good!" -- Dr. Marc Ainger, Ohio State University
