Album Notes
Euphor plays an original style of string band music, based in old-time, but emphasizing original compositions by Matt Turino for fiddle, Tom Turino for clawhammer banjo, and Sam Payne for flat-picked guitar. Euphor has built a solid reputation over the last ten years in the mid-west and southeast for its driving as well as trance-producing contra dance music. On this, their first CD, they have selected favorites that have moved dancers and listeners. Included are some of the Turinos' newest compositions such as Moonlight Lake, a lyrical banjo tune in Bb tuning, and Chance Dance, a kicking fiddle tune in Em, as well as new arrangements of some of their oldest public domain pieces such The Hog-Eyed Man and McPherson's Lament. The CD captures the spirit of their live performances but with excellent studio quality, recorded over a weekend in July, 2012 in Pogo Studio, Champaign, IL.
