ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Neo-Soul, Hip-Hop, Funk, RnB, Pop - it's all in there. In their first full length album, the Excellent Gentlemen defy genre, successfully digesting influences as diverse as Stevie Wonder, The Roots, D'Angelo, Marvin Gaye and Parliament into a sound that can only be described as Fresh.

Just Say Yes was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Kung Fu Bakery's Dave Friedlander, who has worked with Prince and Pink Martini. The album sounds like a vintage recasting of new soulful music, recalling Jamie Lidell, Raphael Saadiq, and Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings.

The album is highly sweaty, highly sexy, and very danceable.

Featuring guest vocals by friend Paul Creighton (of Intervision), Just Say Yes is filled with the raw, live R&B grooves that have made Excellent Gentlemen the young group that everybody is watching.

Growing up together in New York forged a bond between these musicians that is evident in their lock-tight pockets and seemingly telepathic stage interactions. From their roots in the East coast neo-soul and hip-hop communities, these friends have forged a signature sound that is steeped in vitality and celebration.

Excellent Gentlemen plays danceable, vocal soul r&b music. Think '70s block parties and the foundations of golden-age hip-hop records. Their music stands for positivity, love, happiness and getting sexy; this is definitely NOT the drudgery of mediocre Indie-Rock. Their adopted home of Portland, OR has welcomed with open arms the injection of real live dance party music played by real live musicians. On the strength of their incredible live show, the independently-run band has ignited an adoring fan base and has become the hot touring funk act in the Pacific Northwest.

Outstanding!!!
Buy this album!!! This album is what I've been waiting for. I've had the pleasure of seeing this band live and was wondering if they could capture that funky soul on wax. They did. Also, the new original tracks blew me away and I can't wait for the next album. Keep it funky gentlemen. Peace...Chris B.

Just Say Yes
Every single one of these songs will amaze and delight! Lush, sexy and dripping with the sweetest sounds!!!
I've seen them several times in Manzanita Oregon and I'm from Seattle...I try to catch them live whenever I can. But NOW I get these tasty Gentlemen....anytime I want!

OK
I caught these cats live in PDX a few years back. They are AMAZING live. Frenetic energy, funk and spunk, screaming jazzy bounce.
The album.... It's not bad, but it's a little over produced. Too soft, too chill. None of the fantastic energy that their live show has and what drew me to buy the album.
I'll go see them live in a hot second again, but I'm a little sad that I dropped $10 on something only a shadow of what I know they're capable of.
