In 1998, The Extra Records Catalog was designed as a preview of what was to come from the Extra Records label after releasing the self titled album from the Sacramento rapper O.Z. (1997) and Vallejo\'s Pimp P Mack (early 1998).
The Extra Records label owner was sentenced to prison in late 1998. The label collapsed without his marketing savvy. Had the label owner not gone to jail, Extra Records could easily be a Bay Area Rap superpower among its Golden Era peers; including, In A Miinute Records, Solar Music Group (SMG), Sick Wit It Records, Romp Productions, Get Low Records, Young Black Brother Records, and No Limit Records.
The Album Cover:
Do not mistake the cover of this CD for simple music or poor quality product.
The artwork is designed by Ya Boy Black Ice (aka YBBI, Ya Boy B.I., Trav Lyrics) the OG Bay Area Rapper from Richmond, CA. YBBI established Travlyrics Custom Graphics in 1995 to design his now classic album 5.0 REASONS (1998).
The cover art shows the Extra Records Logo which is a remake of the Arm and Hammer Baking Soda logo. Baking soda is a main ingredient of the addictive drug Crack Cocaine, which was placed in the black community by the USA government in the 1980s to fund the Iran Contras. The logo is designed to suggest addiction to Extra Records music.
Inside is a beautiful Full Color 10 page booklet featuring Full Page examples of the album covers featured on the Catalog. Each page is backed with an information sheet regarding the corresponding albums:
