fakirah is originally from cameroon and is the last of ten children. he holds a masters degree from the university of maryland and has loved music from a tender age. he has pursued a reggae style and published an album in 1999. he has performed in atlantic city, nj, atlanta, minnesota, washington, dc, texas, ethiopia, and cameroon. currently, he has innovated a new pan-african music style called ngondele, which is a mixture of tanzanian bongo flavor, makongi, makossa, soukous, ndombolo, afro beats, couper decaller, as well as influences from the traditional ethiopian masinko instrument. fakirah is both a singer and song writer whose energy and charisma infuse the music.
fakirah noticed that each african african music style had a piece missing, which could be solved by putting all of them together. this also gives credit to fakirah's love of uniting people. it is a lively upbeat danceable music with all major african music styles represented and complimenting each other.
for this project, he teamed up with some of the best musicians that ever came out of africa. featuring on the ngondele creation were kouadio "vieux" briscard from the ivory coast (guitar soloist/producer for awilo, meiway, manu dibango, alpha blondy, just to name a few), ngouma lokito from congo d.r. (most famous african bass guitar player of all time (now with lokassa ya mbongo and the soukous stars group in new york), papa guy from cameroon (famous keyboard player for the late cameroonian star tchana pierre), clegg sheye from nigeria (legendary saxophone player for the diva sade), rosy from cameroon (diva and former backing vocalist for meiway), and samuel ekundayo from nigeria (accomplished african talking drummer for femi kuti).
