Fantomatik Orchestra is a musical project that was born in Tuscany in 1993 as a funky, soul and rhythm and blues band, with influences from ethnic, pop and dance and in 1996 released his first CD ("Cover machine"). In 2001 the band takes its most important turning point: the stage group becomes a marching band, on the same style of the great American bands, of which the best known is the Dirty Dozen. The repertoire was then rearranged and adapted to this new body consisting of 14 elements: 3 drums, 4 trumpets, 4 saxophones, 1 sousaphone, 1 trombone, 1 guitar.
The Fantomatik Orchestra is able to dominate public attention immediately due to an increasing number of concerts (over 600) in all Italian cities and in several national and European festivals (France, Spain, Belgium, Germany, Croatia). Over the past seven years Fantomatik Orchestra has performed in Rome, Milan, Naples, Florence, Turin, Genoa, Bari, Siena, Perugia, Arezzo, Viareggio, Rimini, Pisa, Alessandria, Brindisi, Assisi, Cortina d'Ampezzo, Treviso , Taranto, Caserta, Bergamo, Sanremo, Montpellier, Bessines, Linz, Alès, Varazdin and introduced the concerts by international artists such as Genesis, Earth Wind & Fire and George Clinton. Fantomatik Orchestra participated in television shows ("Assolutamente" on Raiuno, Ballandi production) , theatrical and film events and commercials (Vodafone, Peroni).
Creator and leader of the Orchestra is Stefano Scalzi, trombonist-arranger with extensive experience in studio and live (jazz, pop, funky). The Fantomatik Orchestra has maintained and strengthened over the years a picture and a growing credibility, thanks to the inclusion of new skilled musicians and its high level staff, made up exclusively of professionists. They also brought about a "trend" in music market, in fact many amateur marching band are trying to retrace the steps outlined by Fantomatik. Two albums were released in marching band version ("Zerowatt" 2001 and "Pirates" in 2004), containing original songs and covers of key authors such as Duke Ellington, Charlie Mingus, Herbie Hancock, Tito Puente, Henry Mancini, Bob Marley, James Brown and the two CDs have sold about ten thousand copies during the concerts.
The third album, which still contains original songs and covers with particular attention to "ethnic", was released in 2009. This new CD is titled "Experience": starting from the musical experiences gained over the years, an imaginary journey across five continents, with particular attention to the primordial "beat" that came from Africa, which has traveled the world for centuries, influencing all contemporary styles. In 2012 Fantomatik Orchestra has produces the new album, Back in Brass, where Funky, Rock, Ska, Progressive are mixed in excellent Jazz arrangements.
