ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Building on the classic sounds of funk and soul FAQ’s rootsy grooves, authentic lyrics and impassioned performances have seen the band go from strength to strength.

On the back of their debut EP All Over The World the band have procured international support slots (Ursula Rucker and Prefuse 73), toured interstate and received radio and television airplay in Australia (including Triple J and Rage) and overseas in Japan and the USA.

In December 2005, FAQ sat down with Producer & Bassist for George, Paulie Bromley to discuss their idea for a new recording. Something that was soulful, emotive and unprocessed. With preview tracks already gaining interest from radio across Australia, Testify! is an exciting experience in raw emotion and sound.

“…sweet, soulful pop/rock sound fused with jazz, funk and soul that leaves you wishing for more” – Time Off

“…smooth textured voice as soothing as it is hypnotising” - RAVE

FAQ

Brisbane band FAQ use their new EP 'Testify!', to kindly emind us that R&B stands for rhythm and blues, not Rap and Bling, as the US charts would sometimes lead us to believe. The EP's title relates to a good dose of Gospel which can be found among the five funk, and soulful roots based tunes. Timeless influences like Marvin Gaye and Aretha Franklin pervade, yet merge with a more contemporary feel, resulting in a good time mix capable of transcending musical trends and fads.

FAQ serve it up like it is. This EP has it all - love, pain, hope and most of all, it's got a whole lot of respect bro! Including mine. Even for those of us who aren't all that into soul, after listening to FAQ you might just just find that yes, not only do you have one, but that you like to soothe it every now and then, too! Take me back to Sunday school gospel, clapping hands in unison and feel-good choruses. The EP boasts five funked-up golden tracks of goodness. Egg shakers complement smooth choir vocals, relaxed bass, chilled guitars and supple keys - nicely packed together in one big offering plate of harmony. The FAQ boys draw influence from the father of soul Ray Charles and the trials and tribulations of life and love. Let Her Cry is one to bust your hearts and moves out to on the dance floor. Piece Of Dirt is where the keys really get a chance to shine, polished with floating vocals and even some screeches!

Testify! (Second Hand Records)

Covering it all from sweet, sweet soulful sounds to classic 50s doo-wop vocals, rootsy funk grooves and old-school RnB flavours, the second EP from Brisbanes own funk soul brothers is another stab of pure excellence that will firmly tug at your heart strings and get that foot tapping, all within the space of five tracks. You really get the feeling FAQ have nailed exactly what they set out to create.

First Love is the big Sam Cooke-esque soul number thats full of emotive vocal goodness featuring guest Kelly Timmons while Let Her Cry is an upbeat number that hints at country-tinged Motown ingredients. You can virtually picture frontman Peter Branjerdporn preaching in front of a choir during Piece Of Dirt, a song starting as a slow Ben Harper-inspired ballad and ending as a superb, heavenly rant. Well done guys! (BP)

Do their frequently asked questions include "Why aren't you guys on the radio instead of Thirsty Merc ( because you do the whole jazz-doods-do-pop thing better than they could ever hope to do)?
