Album Notes
Get to know Farwell......

Farwell started in suburban Chicago, Illinois, where friends Ben Brittsan and Seth August began writing songs and playing locally for friends and family in high school. Drawing inspiration from Dave Matthews, The Beatles, Bob Marley, Guster and some other alternative rock groups, the two began creating an acoustic style all their own. With time brought confidence, both in their songwriting and performing.

Seeking to move their songs into new territory, Ben and Seth began looking for like-minded musicians to play on the album, such as Peter Yi who helped on percussion. Erik Theiling with his catchy bass grooves, helped a great deal to thicken up the sound of the album also. These guys were joined by guest studio vets, such as celloist Eric Remschnieder (The Smashing Pumpkins and The Eric Remschnieder Trio), Peter Spero on keys, Dan Wean (Easy Tiger) on guitar and Rob Anderlik on the dobro. They also brought in a guest musican and friend Tim Karth to add the smooth saxaphone and flute to some of the tracks.

In January of 2004, the group began recording with producer Mike Hari. The album was recorded in various studios around Chicago such as Gravity Studios and The Mission Room (Big Gold). It was then mixed and mastered at Crystalphonic Recording Studio in Charlottesville, Virginia. It was mixed specifically for the car ride and being blasted thru your speakers with the windows down. That is unless it's 5 below outside, in that case you can just crank the heat. :)

There are dozens of faceless alternative indie pop-acts that look, sound and think the same... and then there's Farwell.

Their debut independent release Stranded Here on Dutch Laybitz Recordings sidesteps cheap thrills by focusing on simple, yet well crafted song arrangements. In other words, it's all about the lyrics and melody, it's all about the songs.

Laughing with sarcasm yet opinionated truth, vocalist and guitarist Ben Brittsan says "It sounds funny to say, but here's a band that concentrates on the music- it's like wow, what a concept. But these days, a lot of bands are writing for teen- age girls as their main audience and seem more concerned with having the right haircut than writing a catchy hook. We try to stray away from that and write for everyone, most of all ourselves... and we were born with good hair anyways." He smiles. "Haircuts eventually go out of style. Farwell's songs have the potential to be timeless."

"Ben and I graduated from high school together where we first took playing guitar seriously." says Seth August, the other vocalist and guitarist. "We had a certain chemistry right away. I'm sure it was mostly due to our common musical interests in groups like, Dave Matthews Band and Semisonic. The chord progressions and jam sessions took flight pretty easily, and we never noticed the hours passing. We have always tried to just have fun with the whole thing, not taking ourselves too seriously, but always striving for that perfect song that we could enjoy with the audience. Whether it's fifteen or fifteen hundred listeners, we want them to know how much we love what we do, and that comes out through the music."

If someone were to ask the members of Farwell what their goals in the music business are, they would explain to you how much they want people to welcome them and identify with them and their music one song at a time. Keeping that goal in mind, that is why Farwell is able to pull at peoples heart strings by playing their guitar strings and not worry about tugging peoples purse strings.

In the bright lights of performing, only a quiet, mysterious yet thunderous magic comes from the group. People often stare in awe, totally silent yet completely engaged at the dexterity of the chord progressions, watching the fingers slide across the fret boards. Eyes usually closed in the midst of a quiet section in a song, Ben and Seth conjure up the music spirits of a Saturday evening like a whole tribe of Zuni rain dancers before a storm. "Between buzzingly free-spirited and comfortably home, Farwell call the Saturday night in everybody out to play, no matter what the day."- Nick Kutsche 2004 Review

All in all, Farwell hopes to make a big happy dent in the world, along with the worlds other not so happy ones, and fill them with their love and music. "If there is one constant in the world, it is the passion for music." - Josh Groban

"There was a great deal of time and effort spent on this record, so we all hope that you enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed making it for you."

2 Words: GREAT CD!!!!
Anyone who enjoys music will love this album. With music that is easy on the ears and catchy, it's perfect for any occasion. I personally loved Ben's first CD, and have been waiting for the new one forever. These are great guys and obviously work VERY well together. No one could spend there money any better way than buying this album. Great work boys, and the best of luck to you.

blends well...like a milkshake
I think the CD is really great. The lyrics are good, but most importantly the music just flows together, nothing seems random yet a variety is still maintained. The music and lyrics also go together very nicely, sometimes with other CDs the music doesn't fit the lyrics but with this they match nicely.

They got it right!
I got my copy of Stranded Here from Seth, one of the guitar players I work out with and he assured me i would like it. I was skeptical at first but after listening to it for about three days straight and I am hooked! This CD has some amazing instrumentation, a total easy flowing mix of all music genere's that will fit anyones taste. The lyrics are true tales of love and loss that anyone can relate to at some time or another. I think Mr/Mrs Anonymous has it all wrong: Amazing lyrics, sweet harmonies, a guy who can play guitar with the best of um (not to mention all the other great musicans adding their parts (I mean I'm sure someone who played with the Smashing Pumkins wouldn't just play on a CD for anyone: Eric Remschnieder), and a great producer (who I think obviously knows what he is doing after hearing this disc)... I wanna know what are you smokin if you DON'T like this CD??? I think even Mr. Marley would be impressed. Well done Farwell, you guys did it right!

Make a girls heart melt
The CD is great. Mellow and calm. It made me want to get in my car and drive down an empty road listing to it. While this CD is for everyone the girls especially will love it.... Can't wait for the next one.

Someone Special

Time Mends The Heart....Listen To Your Own Songs
Ben- I'm sorry that you lost the one that you loved. Believe me, there are sooooo many people who care about you and love you, never forget that. You're a great person and the music you make reflects that...Why don't you give it a listen every once and a while yourself. Peace and Love always.

Practice makes perfect
It is easy to write songs. It is difficult to write good songs. One can hear the time and precision put into this music. It is deliberate and constructed, not just thrown together. Stranded Here has a diversity of music in one album. It sounds like this music got it's start in the crib, a long time in the making. One can not judge this CD by just one song. You must listen to the whole thing to understand the talent.

This CD is pretty damn good. I'm not extremely addicted to the songs (yet), but it's pretty damn good and I probably won't get sick of hearing it like I am with most bands. It's got a different sound than most bands. Maybe I'm looking at it from a local point of view but it definitely does rock! Thanks to you know who, who recommended it! THANKS!

Stranded Here = Ear Candy.
Listen up kids... this is a good one. I've been waiting to hear this one for a few years coming and the wait was well worth it, I'm now just waiting for the boys to head out East so I can hear them live... probably the only thing better. Stranded Here is one of those CDs that you can put in your CD player and let run through. Let's face it, those are hard to find. Bottom line... Farewell and Stranded Here rocks!

"And now we're free
How it was meant to be
No one to hold us down
From what we've found..."

-I wish you guys all the luck in the world and I'll be expecting to hear you all over the radio soon.

Radio Time
Wow, amazing CD overall. Awesome vocals and music with some of the best lyrics I've heard in a long time. Farwell deserve to be on the radio and will be in due time. These guys are the real thing and sound just as good live as on their CD. Everyone who hears these well-written songs will love them, no matter what style of music they listen to. Good deal for the genius music you're getting.

We thought the dynamic of Fall Out Boy was a fluke, thank goodness we're wrong.
Take amazing lyrics, voices that linger, guitar that seems to flow to no end and top it off with a bona fide passion for music. Since the day I got my copy of Stranded Here, I haven’t skipped one track because I can’t seem to get enough of any song. The band did an excellent job putting a face to an unstoppable drive for music, guitar and writing. I saw Farwell come from two guys playing in a Glenview relic, to an amazing solo CD by Ben, to open mic performances at the local bookstore and finally to this. Never did I imagine something to turn out like this; 9 amazing tracks just as good as the last and if not, only better.
