FATHER AND SON
JOSHUA MEADER (son) - Solo guitarist (16 yrs) was born in Amsterdam in 1996 to Australian artists living in the Netherlands. He began learning guitar at the age of seven from his father, a professional musician, and gave his first live performance at eight years old. He has performed hundreds of gigs and currently plays at a semi-professional level.
Joshua returned to Australia with his family in 2008 and attended the Drummoyne Public School. In 2009 he performed an electric guitar solo piece at the Primary Proms and the NSW Principal’s Conference. He was accepted into the Newtown High School of the Performing Arts in 2010 and was selected as the guitarist in the NSW Arts Unit Stage Band.
Joshua has perfumed solo and with the NSW arts unit Stage Band at many of the top venues in Sydney including the Opera House, the Sydney Town hall, the Sydney Entertainment Centre and the Manly Jazz Festival. He regularly performs in a jazz duo with his father, often warming up the audience for the ABC’s Question Time. Joshua also performs in a family rock band alongside his sister Rosie.
Joshua was a featured solo artist at the School Spectacular 2010/2011 and this year was chosen for the stage band to open the World Youth Olympics 2013 at the Sydney Entertainment Arena.
PAUL MEADER (father) - Rhythm Guitarist (54 yrs) was born in London in 1958. He emigrated to Sydney at the age of five and was learning guitar by the age of 12. At 15 he was performing regularly in rock bands on the Sydney pub circuit and came third with his school band in the 2SM Battle of the Bands, winning a scholarship to the Conservatorium. He began his love of Jazz in the mid 80's, switching to double bass and returning to study at the NSW Conservatorium of Music under the guidance of Don Burrows, who ran the Jazz course at the time.
In the early 90's Paul moved to London and for 2 years worked as a freelance jazz musician. It was in London that he co-founded a gypsy jazz band playing the music of Django Reinhardt In 1994 the band relocated to Amsterdam and became very successful in Holland. Due to continued success the band was invited to play concerts and give master classes in England, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Poland, Spain, Italy, Norway, Sweden, Iceland, USA, Canada and Japan. Festival performances included the Montreal Jazz Festival, the North Sea Jazz Festival, the St Louis Jazz Festival, Barcelona Jazz Festival and the annual Django Reinhardt Festival in Samois-sur-Seine, France. Paul co-wrote a music study book series made up of seven books and eight play-along CD’s specializing in Gypsy Jazz. He also wrote and recorded two songs for a Hollywood movie starring Richard Gere called “Autumn in New York”. Paul performed at George Harrison’s castle in England with the trio and became his regular house band for five years until George passed away in 2001.
Since returning to Sydney in 2008, Paul has performed with many of Sydney's jazz musicians and specialises in teaching young people music.
