REVIEWS NEW AGE

Me gusta!.

Among the dozy dreams
Awakening is getting closer

Strong and powerful, this music captures the listener from the first chords. It has a dramatic effect. And these compositions are overflowing with an irrepressible energy. You listen to them and understand that the composer is somewhere not far away and he tells you the exciting stories of his life. You can easily sense a wide range of various emotions. The joy and sadness, serenity and agitation are here. They are together like in everyday life.

The debut album of Frantz Eddy Daniel or F.E.D has the name “Awakening” not accidentally. Its music arouses your soul and fills it with harmony and vital force. It helps you to feel the fresh breath of coming Spring, the fragrance of air saturated with innumerable subtle aromas. You listen to “Awakening” and you just want to breathe a full breast.

With regard to the musical aspect I can say that the keyboard music of F.E.D is beautifully composed and arranged. All his compositions are very melodious and the additional skilful violinist parts by Maureen Manoly and James Racine with the charming vocals of Annelise Colette make the music of “Awakening” more touching and romantic.
And always, this project sounds very heartfelt and expressive.

“Awakening” turned out a very bright debut. Remember a new name – F.E.D. This is a striking composer who definitely has his own unique style along with devotion and a passion for new age music.

From MainlyPiano
"Awakening" is the debut of composer/pianist F.E.D, an emerging artist who could very easily be on his way to super-stardom. Born and raised in Port-au-Prince Haiti, Frantz Eddy Daniel, Jr. started his piano studies at the age of six. At 15, he added cello to his repertoire and performed in some of the most prestigious music institutions in Haiti. In 1997, F.E.D and two violinist friends formed the New Age Trio who performed extensively at Haitian venues. Three years later, F.E.D started his solo career. Soon after, he left Haiti for the US where he earned a degree in Architecture from the City College of New York’s School of Architecture. While earning his degree, he continued composing, performed in local events, and entered musical performance and composition contests, winning several. Inspired by life experiences, an intense interest in the music of different cultures and civilizations, and the expression of human emotions, F.E.D’s music is passionate, vibrant, and very alive. Blending contemporary electronic music, classical music, Haitian folk and konpa music, and other world influences, F.E.D has created a sound that is uniquely his own. His big, cinematic style will undoubtedly generate comparisons to Yanni, but F.E.D’s music is different. In addition to the electronic instrumentation, two violinists and a vocalist appear, and F.E.D plays both electronic and acoustic keyboards. Often very rhythmic and upbeat, his music is just as effective and compelling when he expresses his gentler, tender side. I’m beyond impressed, if you couldn’t tell already!

"Awakening" begins with the title track, a powerful and exciting piece that will turn heads from the first notes and gets even better from there. Strong rhythms, silky strings, and heart-tugging keyboards grab your attention and hold on tight to the very last note. “Memories” brings an immediate contrast with a smooth, graceful ballad and a sweeping cinematic sound. The more world-beat “Ascension” introduces violinist Maureen Manoly in front of driving drums and other percussion that make this a dance of joy. “The Other Side” is something of a buoyant conversation between keyboard and piano. Atmospheric sounds and reverb create a slightly otherworldly setting for the danceable beat. “Pays Lointain” is one of my favorites. It reminds me just a little of Yanni’s “Felitsa” - mostly the way the rhythm flows and the emotions that are conveyed. The energy on this one is more subtle, but it propels the beautiful melody and imbues it with bittersweet feelings. Love it! “The Quest” is a heroic tale of struggle and adventure, and is strong enough for an epic film soundtrack. “Missing You” is a gorgeous love song that spills over with deep emotion. The title of “Solace” suggests soothing comfort, and the piece begins in that mode, but after about a minute, it becomes riveting and more exotic with a driving beat and soulful melody - another favorite. “Moments In Time” brings this superlative album to a close with a beautifully orchestrated ballad that plays like the emotionally powerful music behind the closing credits of a great movie. Let’s give this one a standing ovation!

F.E.D is a very bright star on the musical horizon, and I would expect "Awakening" to be one of the top albums of 2012. Check it out, folks! This is the real deal! I give "Awakening" my highest recommendation.

Review excerpt from Music & Media Focus
When I first started listening to “Awakening” by Franz Eddy Daniel, aka F.E.D, I had to go back and look at the cover to make sure I hadn’t put on a Vangelis, Yanni, or John Tesh CD by mistake. This stunning debut album is by a young pianist and composer from Port-au-Prince, Haiti who came to the US to earn a degree in Architecture at the City College of New York, but never strayed far from his deep love for music. While there are occasional and subtle uses of traditional Haitian music and rhythmic structures, they are assimilated into a much different context here. Neo-classical influences abound on both the piano and the rich orchestration that accompanies it. The music is incredibly lush and exquisitely layered, with wonderful integration of contemporary elements such as synthesizers and electronic beats.

I took notice throughout the album of the sense of dynamics, the way the music flowed, and of how artistically transitions from one section to another were often painted with a wash of cymbals or percussive figure in a cinematic fashion. One of the things I was constantly impressed with is F.E.D.’s ability to add unexpected modern touches in a neo-classical context. There is a lot of emotion in this music, both in its composition and performance. With its’ film score ambience, new horizons continually open on scenes that are majestic, romantic, and full of surprising twists that keep you listening for what is around the next musical corner. In addition to being a talented pianist, F.E.D has impressive skills as an orchestrator and arranger and has produced here a work of great elegance and musical maturity. “Awakening” is truly an auspicious debut release from a recording artist that I’m sure we’ll be hearing a lot more from in the future.
