Album Notes
I needed a sense of complacency with my music first to reach this stage. After spending too much time judging my creation based on other music composers/reviewers, I began to disbelieve in my own artistry and abilities thus the need to get out of that mind set was not dubious. I was quick to learn that 'Good Music' is what we enjoy listening too and that taking a new step was of great risk but not taking that step was of toxic repercussions. I needed to have fun while I worked in order to thrive in my own credence and to acknowledge the fact that music change is universal yet its recognition is restrained, at least until we all begin to realize the power of joy and put it to use where it matters most. “Advocacy” is a reflection of both my inherited and acquired experiences through elucidating one track title at a time.

Fiks is short for Fikeveni meaning “arrive in the world”. Born in the tiny traditional Kingdom of Swaziland from a family of different music tastes. His music diversification essence began at age 11 when he left home for boarding school. Being the first time he had ever lived away from family he began what was first a hobby only later to become a passion. Out of loneliness at his new school, Fiks would sit on his chair, lay his ear flat across his desk and begin thumb-beating the top of the desk with drum beat mimics of the music sounds he grew up listening too at home to create his own comfort zone. Here the art of making musical rhythms began.

Through peer influences he began listening to Kwaito (a South African-style pop genre) and American R&B music. A combination of the smoothness of R&B and the upbeat Kwaito he formulated a style of music that he personally identified with. Fiks moved to the United States of America for college education. He attended Purdue University and graduated with a B.S. degree in Environmental Science. However, his uninterrupted passion was shimmering through listening to more elaborate local genres like new age, contemporary jazz and world music. The decision to set out on the quest to walk the walk was born.

This music took me on a mental journey back to the Motherland. For me, it is a window through which to hear some of the sound and rhythm Southern Africa created. It is soothing and entertaining. Great job Fiks!!!
