ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Once heard, one doesn’t easily forget Celtic/New Age artist Fiona Joy’s
piano and vocals. She is often referred to as ‘Australia’s Enya’. Blue Dream is a 68 minute suite of music written by Australian composer and pianist Fiona Joy Hawkins, produced by Grammy winner Will Ackerman (Founder of Windham Hill Records) and recorded at Imaginary Road Studios on a Steinway. (Blue Dream is also available as an SACD hybrid/multichannel).

Fiona Joy has been named Best new Age Artist for 2013 and was Runner up for Best Instrumental Song in the International Acoustic Music Awards. After touring extensively in the US and Australia, Fiona earned a nomination along with Pete Seeger for Best LIVE Performance album in the Independent Music Awards. Also a Finalist in the One World Radio Awards t for Album of the Year. Fiona looks forward to playing at the ZMR New Age Music Awards in New Orleans May 2014 as a Finalist for Best Piano, Best Instrumental and Album of the Year.

“One of the brightest lights in the contemporary instrumental genre, Fiona Joy Hawkins is poised to move into stardom.” Will Ackerman, Founder of Windham Hill Records

The family home was filled with music."My father played Jesus in the Tamworth Musical Society production of Jesus Christ Superstar, Andrew Lloyd Webber's music was part of our lives." Classically trained as a pianist, Fiona's music is thematic and melodic. With a keen eye on film she has always been interested in creating music that evokes images and emotions and tells a story. Fiona first began playing and writing music as a child and cites Ravel's Bolero as an early influence. "I played it over and over and deconstructed every part, I absolutely loved it," said Fiona. Other musical influences include: George Winston, Prokofiev and Mendelssohn.

“Fiona Joy Hawkinsʼ BLUE DREAM began as the most ambitious project of my entire career and resulted in one of the most remarkable collaborations this genre has ever known. Blue Dream is unique and Iʼm as proud of it (and Fiona) as anything Iʼve ever worked on in my 35 year career of Grammy Awards and gold and platinum records.”
Will Ackerman (Founder Windham Hill Records) Windham County, Vermont 2008

Featuring guest performances by Luka Bloom, this album goes from quiet contemplative piano to full orchestral, to world sounds, rhythms, jazz influences and back again to the perfect “Bach” moment – all in a breath. Blue Dream crosses from Contemporary Classical, to World Fusion, Jazz and New Age and is available at cdbaby.com, I-tunes and fionajoy.com

An exquisitely captivating musical journey from start to finish. Vibrant, Sensual, Haunting. Blue Dream is an unforgettable magic carpet ride into the heavens. I am so proud to have been a part of Fiona’s special world....”
T-Bone Wolk, Producer Arranger (Hall and Oates)

“Fiona Joy Hawkins plays with great imagination and beauty. Every measure of this sensitive recording is carefully considered, it takes the listener on a wonderful journey” Bob Ludwig, Gateway Mastering

As well as Luka Bloom and Will Ackerman, Blue Dream includes performances from some of the best instrumental artists in the world including T-Bone Wolk (Hall & Oates), Heather Rankin (The Rankin Family), Eugene Friesen (Paul Winter) and Jeff Haynes (Pat Methany), Jeff Oster and many more.

Fiona recently won prestigious awards in an unprecedented three categories in the Zone Music Reporters Awards (Album Of The Year, Best Contemporary Instrumental Album, and Best Instrumental Album - Piano), and the CD Baby Top World albums, landing 15th over 10,233 other World albums. Worth noting Fiona's "Blue Dream" is in the top 10 selling New Age Albums on CDbaby.

In March 2009 Blue Dream achieved the highest ranking in the history of the NAR International Radio Charts. Fiona has been a finalist in over 32 Indie Artist Awards across 9 countries, and in 2006 Won the Best Piano Album in the NAR Lifestyle Music Awards and in 2007 won the Best Dance Dub/Club Album. In 2008 she won a MusicOZ Award for Best Classical/Jazz Artist.

My Heart Was Stirred
As I listened to the music I felt lifted from the constraints of life...

A lot of beautiful and exceptionally relaxing piano music
I bought this "Super Audio CD" and I knew immediately: only one person in the world could have made this: Fiona Joy Hawkins. So recognisable.
Love this colorful, well in all kinds of blue, soothing piano music. Very nice concept of more than an hour, where you keep on soaring through 22 pieces of new age music. Transitions between the main parts are blending everything into a relaxing experience. You don't hear any gaps in-between, which creates a feeling of eternal music.
Fiona's magic piano is accompanied by a bunch of top musicians. I love also the cello, the voices, the didgeridoo ...
Every spa and health treatment place should have this CD in the house. We will ask them ;-)
Superb production (I bought the SACD version).
A lot of work. A masterpiece.
Thanks Fiona,

Peter
