FLIP is a classic jazz quartet with a swinging groove. A young group consisting of bass, drums, guitar and sax, they play jazz standards and originals in a style that is cool and sophisticated.
Lachy Hamilton's tenor sax draws on influences from Stan Getz to Coleman Hawkins but it's his sound that first catches your ear - a beautiful homage to Ben Webster whilst still being fresh and original.
The guitar and bass are taken care of by Jazz great James Morrison's sons - William and Harry are following in their father’s footsteps.
William plays the guitar with a smooth, warm sound, which reminds you of Wes Montgomery and a style that speaks of many hours studying the great Joe Pass.
Harry is a devotee of the Ray Brown school of bass - to swing is everything!
Drummer Rhys Daher has that intimate touch on the brushes which gives Flip it's cool, sophisticated sound.
This band manages to celebrate the jazz tradition whilst still sounding as though the music was written yesterday.
In the words of jazzman James Morrison "Hearing FLIP, I know the future of jazz is in good hands - these guys are the real thing".
