ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
British Singer Songwriter Julia Fordham burst into the music scene in 1988 on Virgin Records with the International hit “Happy Ever After.” Then followed her critically acclaimed album “Porcelain,” which included the popular songs “Manhattan Skyline” and “Lock and Key.”

Julia has just completed her tenth record 'China Blue'.
A jazz record comprised of original songs written by Julia and produced and arranged by the wonderfully talented
multi-instrumentalist Grant Mitchell.

As there are so many jazz “standards” records – Julia longed to release an album of original songs. However, when she played some gigs last year adding her jazz songs to the set, Julia included a version of Michael McDonald’s hit “I keep Forgettin.” Rearranged and produced for this record by Jon Gilutin (Linda Ronstadt), she was thrilled when the co-producer of this song Simon Climie (Eric Clapton, Michael McDonald) played the track to Michael.

Having always been a huge fan, Julia was delighted when immediately after hearing her rendition of his song, Michael added his remarkable voice to the track, blessing it with his rare and distinctive vocal sound.

Julia decided to re-record two songs from the Porcelain album. The newly arranged title track “China Blue,” which was only available in the UK, and “For You Only For You,” which is gloriously simple with piano, violin and Julia’s divine voice. “I Want To Stay Home With You,” from the 'Baby Love EP', is also included.

Julia started writing songs at 12 and began performing them in the local folk clubs at 14. In her late teens, Julia made a guest vocalist appearance with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra in London. From that moment on, she had always hoped to record an album of original jazz standard-style songs.

The release of 'China Blue' sees that dream coming to fruition.

China Blue
Julia Fordham is simply one of the best.
I have seen her creative and musical talents develop throughout her albums and still get great pleasure listening to her first as much as her most resent.
I would recommend this or any of her previous albums. Keep up the good work

china blue
Well, having first seen "julia" way back in the late eighties it's always good to know that she is still singing her sweet sweet tunes.
This album exudes class and taste and is delivered impeccably.
It would be so somgood to actullay hear it "live" one day ...so...when you coming to the U.K. to perform again ?
Serioulsly BIG thanks for giving us all some beautiful songs over the years and only ever wishing all the very best for your life in music and for you and your family.

NovaTunes and Julia Fordham
I first heard China Blue on NovaTunes actually and it was really cool how you were able to listen it before you buy plus connect with the artist and other users who like her as well. I actually signed and am an active member, I love it!

Anyway, this album is great. Julia has an absolutely intoxicating jazzy and her loungy piano melodies are a masterpiece and she has a style that shines on other great female singers such as Joni Mitchell and Billie Holiday. I definitely recommend China Blue over her other albums. This one has pure quality and charisma.

Juicy Jazzy Tunes
Thanks to cdbaby China Blue swiftly made it's way across to sunny Scotland. As a long time admirer of Julia's music I was unsure as to whether her latest baby would float my boat but yes indeedy it most certainly is surprisingly my cup of lushious tea. Julia is in an unsual category these days where she can just about sing anything and Jazz certainly seems to sit in her vocal range very well. Another fantastic album from Julia and it's great to see a few of her old buddies back on board.

China Lilac!(Was it a printing error?)
Julia Fordham has been my fantasy girlfriend for the last 17 years - so this review may seem a little biased, but China Blue is late night listening at its best, and Julia's voice just gets better and better. There's a real variety of songs here, ranging from the Ella Fitzgerald-esque to a more contemporary jazz style. My current fave at the moment is "I will bring you love" which I would do, Julia, if only you'd give me a chance. Talking of which, any chance of a UK tour??

The CD Julia was Bonr to make and you must have!!!
The magical, unmistakable, Julia Fordham and her incredible voice, have found their place in the world of contemporary jazz. The 9 original songs are smooth. bright, and enticing, and her voice flows like a cool brees through them. the songs are timeless and completely memorable. You will have them going through your head..promise. Her incredible voice never sounded better.
Produced by her long time friend and original producer, Grant Mitchell, The production is intuitive and in perfect sync with the warmth of her creative sound. Grant Mitchell produced her first 3 cd,s (julia fordham, self titled, Porcelain, and Swept, some of her highest acclaimed work in her catalogue. His simple and elegant touches conpletely compliment her one of a kid voice. Once you hear it, you won't forget it, and you can't waitto hear it again.
Her unique and somewhat haunting version of 'keep forgettin', the only song not written by Ms fordham, but by Mickael Mcdonald, is a perfectly original interpritation of a song rich with the universal message of love and loss. She takes it and makes it her own, and Michael's voice is fantastic with hers. Hope they will do this again.
If you think you know 'smooth jazz', you have to know Julia Fordham. If you think you are a fan of 'singer/songwriter's, Julia is your lady. She has it all, and never sounded, wrote, or looked better.
It's hard to pic favorites, but 'funny Guy' (originally on the UK release of Concrete Love) is a much better version of a fantastic jazz song. I watched all the men in the room melt when she sang it live in Chicago a few years ago. And they, like me, are waiting for their chance to see her again!
Other personal faveorites, ' My only Valentine',
'the world keeps turning' and 'china blue'. Don't miss this cd, it's a must have. your love affair is about to begin...or perhaps begin again!
Pour the champagne, turn the lights down. get confortable and settle in for a rare treat,
CHINA BLUE.

Smooth as sipping a silken smoothie in a velvet boat on a lake of liquid glass
There has never been a more obvious subject for human cloning; we should all have our own little Julia to sit in our lounges and sing to us day and night - until that time, China Blue comes a close second.
Julia is again at the top of her game. If you want to know what it would be like chilling in an armchair of clouds on a hazy summer’s day, just pop this CD on and close your eyes.
I only have a single complaint...why isn't this a double CD!

China Blue
Yet again you have amazed me with your artistry. China Blue fulfills every expectation. I always eagerly await anything new from you and by chance discovered that this album had been released. CD Baby sent it my way immediately and it was spinning in my cd player hot out of the packaging. Thank you so much. Here's to continued brilliance, please come south near Atlanta or Nashville sometime so those of us stuck in the south can hear you live. Thanks again, and thanks to CD Baby.

I like this but...
I,myself is singer/composer and huge fun of Julia.
Julia's unique voice and accurate singing technic is amazing and very respective.I like this album but I don't want Julia to be a "kind of Jazz" singer. because she has much more potential.I believe.
