ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
A new beginning. Formant, after more than a year away from playing onstage together, has precisely that, with new songs, a new member (drummer Jason Dixon, formerly of scarswillfade) and a renewed conviction in the music it makes. That music, rooted in and expanded from the guitar work of Erik McGreevy, is heavier, meaner but also prettier than ever before, all while exploring new elements and influences brought on by the changes in the last year-plus.

Formant began in 2006 as The Horizon Is After Us, a hard rock group that brought together veterans of numerous local rock bands and combined a radio-rock sound with more progressive and experimental songwriting. In the years since the band honed its songs and stage show to become one of Springfield's most popular rock acts. When McGreevy left in the summer of 2009 to go on the road as a member of Future Leaders of the World the other members of Formant carried on for a while without him, but without the heart of the band's music it didn't make sense to them to continue for long. Now, with McGreevy back in the fold, the members of Formant is ready to pick up where it left off with renewed hunger and sense of professionalism.

The latter sparks from McGreevy's time with FLOW and later with Soulidium, touring the country and opening for acts such as Alice In Chains, Limp Bizkit and Sevendust. Reunited with lyricist and singer Lance Grant, guitarist Dan Knatcal and bassist Derek Potter while adding the aforementioned Jason Dixon, the band is growing its sound to include elements of electronica and hip hop while retaining the core that comes from the members' beginnings in the metal and hardcore genres. Formant's new beginning is intended to be just that: a beginning. All five members want to get out on the road again and bring their music to fans in Springfield and in places as far away as their wheels can take them and to show you something heavy, something mean and something beautiful.
