Frank Bey—a staple of the Philadelphia music scene—has teamed up with long time Bay Area guitarist Anthony Paule. Together they have recorded this tour de force of ten choice, live performances ranging from old school soul to blues. All tracks were recorded live on July 20, 2012 at Biscuits & Blues nightclub in San Francisco. Paule’s seven piece band is comprised of the Bay Area’s finest musicians and the results are stunning. Musicians are Anthony Paule; Guitar, Paul Revelli; Drums, Paul Olguin; Bass, Nancy Wright; Tenor Sax, Mike Rinta; Trombone, Tony Lufrano; Keyboards, and Steffen Kuehn; Trumpet. The audio quality of the recording is excellent…something which can be elusive in a live recording. All tracks are previously unreleased.
Frank Bey began his singing career performing gospel at the tender age of 4. Along with his brother and two cousins, their group The Rising Sons toured around Georgia making live appearances as well as radio broadcasts. At age 17 he joined the Otis Redding Revue working as the opening act for several years. During his time with Otis Redding, Frank honed his singing and performing skills to a world class level. After a long hiatus from the music business during the 80s and 90s, Frank is back on the scene in full force, wowing audiences around the country.
Anthony Paule has been a mainstay of the Bay Area music scene for many years touring and recording with luminaries such as Boz Scaggs, Charlie Musselwhite, Maria Muldaur, The Johnny Nocturne Band, Mark Hummel, and others. Anthony has released two solo CDs and can often be heard fronting his own group. This recording puts Paule in full stride with this eight piece soul band setting, finding him in his element backing up a fine singer.
